cowpuc Posted February 29, 2020 #1 Posted February 29, 2020 These days most of my love for spinning wrenches fulfillment is found in laying around watching YouTube.. Just found this one and thought it was right along my line of thinking/play.. Pretty enlightening.. I think they are onto something concerning the wet sumping cause possibilities with the new M8 HD.. Only issue I take (and it's just another IMHO's of course) is I would have suggested actually removing the piston squirters and re-lock tighted them as my experience with Lock Tight (whether blue or red) is once it is broken loose, it has to be re-applied to be useful.. Anyway,, thought I would share this with you lop eared brotherhood of the wrench varmints... What say you?
zagger Posted February 29, 2020 #2 Posted February 29, 2020 Needs an after market cam sprocket to fit on the shaft better? Geesh. Nothing in the vid says that Harley has top notch quality control. But what do you expect for $20K? zag
tz89 Posted February 29, 2020 #3 Posted February 29, 2020 Torquing it to spec with fresh lock tight is cheap compared to redoing the engine again later. With that much play, I'm surprised he didn't pull them and re-do the goop. A fun video to watch through. My dad's shop didn't gleam like that, that's for sure.
rbig1 Posted March 1, 2020 #4 Posted March 1, 2020 Gamble for sure. But will make it through there liability period. Cant be leave that sprocket play. They using used parts at factory or seconds. What else is out of spec.
BlueSky Posted March 1, 2020 #5 Posted March 1, 2020 So the new Harleys burn oil and have to be modified for decent power?
Marcarl Posted March 1, 2020 #6 Posted March 1, 2020 So maybe I'm wrong, but didn't he put a rag in the rear cylinder and make lots of noise about why he did, and then not put a rag in the front cylinder? Also, it's interesting to follow him as to how good things are, and then to talk upgrade, but trying very hard not to downgrade the original,,, some fancy talk work that is. Lots of noise about how bad the oils squirters were loose, but then not to make a guy feel bad about his machine,,, he doubts they were leaking,,,, ya 1/2 turn loose? So then he saves his bacon by saying they were not loose,,, no,,, that wasn't the case,,, just not very tight maybe?, and as mentioned before, wouldn't you want new lock tight put in there?? How much would it take to do it right? So the sprocket issue,,,improvement and correction and better package,,, but, no lock tight where it could be very useful? Huh? And we are going to straighten the jug bolts, so they are perfectly square,,,, really?? interesting, maybe somebody can explain this to me as to why a cylinder bolt would be out of square and you wouldn't just replace it? and if and when the cylinder gets tightened down how it could be not be square to the deck?? Guess I'm not quite with it anymore,, or maybe they figure that most folks have no idea what's going on and are easily brainwashed.

You really got me fired up to watch the video,,,,,,,,,, THANK"S for not spoiling it,,, DANG DUTCHman
Patch Posted March 1, 2020 #8 Posted March 1, 2020 Thanks for the post Puc! Maybe we need to excuse Carl from some of these modern ways of spending moneys;) I will say that the owner was very pleased so, if you got the to pay the HD tax what the heck.. You guys like know how they jumped the torque numbers by now, but I will say that I didn't sit comfortable with some of the sales pitching back and fourth...hmmhmm The fasteners in question, well if you choose to use a selftap then how can you expect a set torque to settle at the supposed number?! As for the rods, really pathetic, period. As for the 2mm over 3, this is a proven friction number right off the dyno which can be justified but they do take time to seat and they need a true surface and tight hone.. So not a touring bike but a cruiser, that way you the customer are at fault, you did or you didn't do XXX:bawling:
