RDawson Posted March 5, 2020 #51 Posted March 5, 2020 We had an emergency responders meeting today about the virus. Felt good to be reminded that we are on the front line walking into houses and buildings to package patients. Yay Us. Citizens are much safer today than yesteryear when we had more fires and worse auto accidents but stuff like this makes me miss the days of spending all our time fighting fires and working wrecks. The more EMS creeps into the fire service the more I look forward to retirement. 22 months and counting down. What used to be a lot of :fireman::fireman:has turned into a lot of :223:.
Patch Posted March 5, 2020 Author #52 Posted March 5, 2020 My son was certified last year but he decided not to do the EMS ambulance end of it cause of the stresses he found that had changed many of his friends over the years. A friend of mine has a complaint file with EMS Edmonton over callus behavior, so too did her GP also file a complaint over the same pickup after discussing the patient. Yet and most likely he didn't start with that attitude.
cowpuc Posted March 5, 2020 #53 Posted March 5, 2020 Not sure why this is still being discussed. It's fine but is not going to change anything. Political posts will be deleted. End of story. This was not just my decision. It was put to the vote of the membership long ago and has been re-affirmed a couple of times since. The result was overwhelmingly in favor of NO POLITICAL POSTS. It wasn't even close. So discuss it all you wish but they will continue to be deleted. You have cautioned me once before on a thread that started one way then steered its way to show political leanings. Was I talking to myself? Of course not, I do that in private! None the less I agreed with you ,in the open and, the rest is history. Now I still do not see my deleted post as being political! I can't help it if I built a door that lead to a political comment! Now, I am wondering what is going to be determined as a political post? Obviously this is not the first time the family has been faced with this crossing. I bet that many of those same members are still with the forum today; but, times have changed, pressures have changed, perhaps there exists a way to exchange and still be the gentlemen we have proudly displayed!? My opinion to think on is this, is there a divide say between a comment by Puc couple years back (I'm not mentioning it) and Tart's of a couple days back? Does not discussing it do more than keep the divide in the dark? For me I am Canadian, I simply wasn't born with an opinion;) hh Coming home from baby sitting my new born grandson and my ears start ringin like crazy,,, I think I know why now .. Back in the old days when YammerDan, FlyinFool and numerous other like minded lop eared varmints of similar mind to that of a much younger and healthier :stickpoke:Puc were constantly causing the VR Admin ,,,, either the (lovingly and respectfully =) Boss (aka Don) or one of those (lovingly and respectfully =) ornery moderators like Marcarl used to have to issue so many warnings, do thread deleats and so on and so forth so often that we offenders lovingly and understandably each other about "being placed on probation and spending time in the VR penalty box".. I formed the opinion and built a reminder inside of me to try to not take ANYTHING like you varmints experienced here personally.. Matter of fact, in private, I use to Dan anytime I got away with something that he was in the penalty box for and he would :stickpoke:me right back when the roles were reversed.. Fact is,,, even as good of job as the Admin here are at keeping things running smoothly and headed in a healthy direction by enforcing the rules that our VR Membership and the Owner of the Site (Don) have decided were needed and that are all spelled out in Forum Rules,,,, our monitors cant be everywhere and catch everything... Looking back over the years of fun and yes,, seeing some/being involved in some discussions that did go personal,, I gotta say - IMHO = THERE IS NO FINER/MORE FAIRER/MORE PERFESSIONAL FORUM ADMIN IN THE BUSINESS = WE GOT BLESSED IMHO!! Also, IMHO,, one of the very difficult things about stuff like politics (shoot brother,, I have even seen things sour and posts get deleted just :Im not listening toing motorcycles ) is that there is always something missing (body language?,,,,) when hiding behind a keyboard. Sitting around a campfire or yakking while spinning wrenches is always better.. About the Coronavirus... My daughter manages a medical lab (she's a Dr.) for a university hospital in the middle of the crisis.. Last I spoke with her, they were still waiting for blood test kits for the virus... California was OUT of Resparators also.. I asked if there was anything I could do from my end.. She mentioned that the hospital staff was fine but was concerned for the homeless in the area concerning the masks.. The main concern/reason for wearing a mask is actually for the wearer to contain coughing spit.. I offered to search locally here for her recommended "N95"s.. Local Menards had already shipped all they had to affected areas.. I did get what was left here locally at a paint shop and shipped a case to my daughter to pass out to the homeless who would wear them (there was a lady inline behind us with a case she was shipping to Korea)... In my case and IMHO,,,, for me,,, helping to be part of the solution keeps the fear/panic at arms length even with having grandkids and offspring out there in the middle of it all.. Prayer helps too! By the way,,, NO ONE,, and I mean NO ONE is turned away from an emergency room at a U.S. Hospital that I have ever heard of.. The homeless population outside the door of my daughters office are 100% taken care of as the need arises.. One of the biggest struggles in Hospital Management are Accounts Receivable (cant get blood from a turnip) and I happen to know that inability to pay and/or having an outstanding balance with a given hospital in the U.S. is no cause for refusing treatment even to homeless people.. Something else just occurred to me,, I know this wasnt brought up in this thread but you know me Patch,, always .. I don't know if anyone else has thought of this but,, one of the awesome things about having gone to a "for pay" site (besides having those wonderful feelings of paying my fair share in assisting with the costs of operation) is that "feeling" of cutting down on trolls and the like... It's sort of an extra way to acknowledge my agreement with following the rules.. Dont know why but thought I would mention that ..

A friend of mine has a complaint file with EMS Edmonton over callus behavior, so too did her GP also file a complaint over the same pickup after discussing the patient. Yet and most likely he didn't start with that attitude. The fire dept here doesn't run ambulances but with the much lower number of fires today we have started to run backup for EMS. I much prefer the fire/rescue side of things that I signed on for. That being said we often beat EMS on runs closer to us and it has made a difference for some when we can shock the ticker a few minutes earlier. I get why we do it, we're here getting paid so why not use us between fires. It makes sense but I'd rather leave the doctoring to my daughter.
Patch Posted March 6, 2020 Author #56 Posted March 6, 2020 I heard this morning about this letter written by a nurse then handled by her union... Took a bit to find a decent link for it, this is what I found: https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/486235-quarantined-nurse-in-california-warns-not-enough-is-being-done-to-combat Zag, how is your son feeling?

Interesting read. Is it really the Feds blocking it or the locals, Did she talk directly to a CDC official who told her no. I find it a little hard to believe as they are testing a bunch here in Houston because they 'might' have been exposed. You can read all over where they are testing multiple hundreds just due to potential exposure.

You mention testing hundreds of people in a state that has a population of how many? Is testing to say there is testing going on/happening enough? That is up to the American people. We started by saying 3% now its 3.4%, yet if I'm not mistaken South Korea is showing results of 0.65% why? I think that answer is obvious, wouldn't you say.
RDawson Posted March 7, 2020 #59 Posted March 7, 2020 The virus has officially hit KY now. I got a push notification from the local news that the first case had been noted, 15 minutes later I got a text from the oldest daughter that it was in the hospital where the med students study. Mama's not happy that her little girl (25 y/o dr to be) is in the same hospital with it.
Marcarl Posted March 7, 2020 #60 Posted March 7, 2020 A Canadian doctor has it right I think. He says that we will not stop this virus from spreading and all we are doing at this point is prolonging the agony. He says what we need to do is to plan to protect the most vulnerable, so keep an eye on where it is active and then take the necessary precautions to deal with it, but to try to stop this thing or contain it will only stretch the activity to a much longer period of time, have a dramatic effect on all of us, even those without any problems. Most people would only have to deal with nothing more than maybe what they would should they get a cold or a flue. Really, I think the news people needed something to have folks watch their shows and this came at a perfect time for them. Disclaimer: Some thoughts are my own.

Now that I believe! With Canadian heath care at your finger tips and who do you choose to listen to? A Quack:scared:

We started by saying 3% now its 3.4%, yet if I'm not mistaken South Korea is showing results of 0.65% why? I think that answer is obvious, wouldn't you say. My point is this; A CDC official is not going to talk directly to a nurse just to tell her no. They will deal with a hospital's administration. As far as testing hundreds as I indicated. Look at the cruise ships. The quarantine locations like those in CA and TX. I personally cannot confirm how many tests have been done here in Houston but the area has a population of over 8 million. In San Antonio (population around 1.2 million I think) where there is a quarantine center logic dictates they have performed hundreds of tests in the center alone. We now have cases near where I live and know of a small group that went to Egypt on a trip and some are now showing symptoms. As I've stated before, I have my normal spring cough from allergies and every time I cough in public someone gives me the stink eye. It has gotten insane. People who have no need to quarantined are becoming a shut in calling it self quarantine. I cannot nor will not ever understand this type of fear. Hell I'm afraid of heights and spiders but I work in a high rise and pickup spiders all the time to get them out of the house. Generally all the hype over this is causing undo panic. Now that they've triggered this panic they are trying to calm it. As for me, I will continue to travel for business.
Patch Posted March 8, 2020 Author #64 Posted March 8, 2020 Morning Carl, I see you came out swinging, did you have a good sleep, Grandpa? "The development suggests that a community outbreak, which government officials expect will happen, could be soon. The country now faces a critical question in how it responds, Rau said. “This is the turning point where we have an opportunity to shine relative to other countries. We can do this differently,” he said. “If we are intelligent about this and keep tracking the disease at a community level, looking for mild cases, not necessarily with a view to isolate them … then you can get an idea of what is the risk level for seniors, and when should they be careful about visitors. That’s going to be the trick.” " Rau is a Quack, and full of contradictions not to mention arrogant to think we know better than the rest in the same fight; my opinion of course. Testing the population at large will provide a clearer picture of the size to the problem and at what rate is the spread of… it here in North America. On this he is completely unprepared demonstrating confusion during his interview! Yesterday I heard a report from our cousins saying that 1685 people have been test “as of Friday” 10% tested positive. 10% 0f 325M is 32M that is a petrifying number for any country or continent, could we agree on that? On the “huge ship” anchored off the cost of Cal. Half of those tested, tested positive that’s 50%. The numbers are out of whack! We need to know what is the best and worst case scenario so MAN can plan, and women can correct us and guide, as is their role We are born to create for ourselves a fighting chance, ignorance robs us of that instinct! Lucky for Canada the West is still Conservative thinking!
Patch Posted March 9, 2020 Author #65 Posted March 9, 2020 Looking back at some of the humor posted;) A song us carry is thru: Could be how the Chinese government is planning to take over the world, packing corona virus in the air bags that they know everyone will pop. OOOOOHH thats a scary thought and since they probably have too many people they could be infecting their own surplus population first to draw suspicion away from themselves. I always popped them before tossing them in the trash to save space. Now space be damned. Thanks a lot for that thought.... I usually pop them while sitting on the can. Don't think anything will live through that,,, sometime I can hardly make it!! WAY TOO MUCH INFO CARL...............!!!!!!! Now I need brain bleach to get that picture out out my head... ,,, trying to get my brain around the site of a bunch of Chinese people standing in a line blowing up those little packaging "balloons" ,,,, I always thought those little varmints (the packaging balloons) were filled by machines... My apologies - I have been absorbing the internet for far too long now and have lost my sarcasm detector. I am red faced. I just deleted a few of the more political posts. Most of you do know better. You Dad we do know better and we could have handled it, my opinion. Clever! What does no recriminations mean? I'm listening to this, expect a dual with "playing for change" Morning Carl, I see you came out swinging, did you have a good sleep, Grandpa?
Patch Posted March 14, 2020 Author #66 Posted March 14, 2020 Well RandyR, I saw your two now I'ma raising you one;) Just discovered this young artist, her goal is to interpret well known older songs thru her violin. I must say that she has quite the collection, I am astonished by her diversity and control... If you know the song then words the words are clear, if you don't then they can be found lower right area.
Patch Posted March 15, 2020 Author #67 Posted March 15, 2020 I also liked what she did with this old favorite. Electric violinist Jo A Ram
