Hi,

Going to order then change the plug wires on my 83 VR... I could order them from the local dealer, but thought I'd first check if anybody here had any recommendations on brand, or good place online to order them from...

Any quick tidbits of advice for making the job quick and easy?

Thanks,

Clay

You can get everything you need from a NAPA store, or..... if you're lazy like me order a set off Ebay. I can't remember the part numbers for the caps, but I'm sure someone will chime in here with the info.

OK, I lied. I saved the info.

1 BP426-480-204 Dynatek 7MM Ignition Wires

2 BP426-440-022 NGK Resistor Spark Plug Covers, straight

2 BP426-440-072 NGK Resistor Spark Plug Covers, 120 degree long elbow

4 Iridium plugs NGK DPR8EIX-9 (these are good ones - worth a couple bucks extra)

You cna use standard NGK's and savew some bucks....

The wire is simply 7mm Solid Core Plug Wire.

Whatever NAPA stocks will work just fine.

And the NGK Caps and Plugs, of course, as Condor listed.

If you haven't upgraded your battery cables with what Squidley makes, then this would be good to do at the same time.

I used the plug wires off of Ebay, it is usually there. Good so far.

In fact, i did the above two and then put the PC680MJ in too. I was there so I did it.

Oh, almost forgot, if you remove the battery box, or at least attempt to, those bolts holding it in might be a bit of a bear to get out. I had to drill the heads off mine and then remove the bar to get the rest of the bolt(s) out.

I ordered mine from e-bay. Came in with the correct NGK ends and a good

quality silicone solid core wire. I can look when I get home for the name. They

sell on e-bay all the time. Watch the coil nuts and o-rings. Make sure you

salvage them from the old wires. Buckeye Performance does sell the nuts

and o-rings as a separate item.

I got my wires and plugs from Buckeye Performance and he was much cheaper than e-bay. I don't know if Buckeye is cheaper than NAPA or not but I get as many parts as I can from Rick as he is very helpful and having a couple of these bikes himself, he knows what to look for and his prices are always cheaper than the Yamaha dealer. http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/

I agree that Rick is a great source. He is always polite and believes in customer relations. Recently ordered my cltch hydraulic parts. He checked part numbers and got back to me with availability. Had a couple good discussions with him on clutch plates and pressure plate styles. He really is a Venture supporter.

I personally met Rick whilst I was in Cincinnati one day on business and I was on the bike. Great person and we talked almost an hour about these things. DOn't hesitate to use him, he also carries a complete kit for a fork rebuild, also.
