Iowa Guy Posted May 14, 2008 #1 Posted May 14, 2008 My son's moped does not seem to be using any oil. It is a 2003 Derby that has a seperate oil tank and then is supposed to mix the oil and gas automatically but the oil never needs to be filled. Sounds to me like this could be a problem eventually. What should I check first with this? Iowa Guy
cliffno350 Posted May 14, 2008 #2 Posted May 14, 2008 it should use some oil most 2 strokes require a 32 parts gas to 1 part oil mix, I would make sure its a 2 stroke and then check lines from oil tank to the oil/injection pump, may have to prime pump by forceing oil into itthey can cavitate and suck air make sure oil lines are tight to pump so it cant suck air. I am not familar with a darby but have worked on quite a few different 2 stroke scooter/mopeds. let us know what ya find.

If it isn't pumping the motor will sieze up pretty soon.
