eagleeye Posted May 14, 2008 #26 Posted May 14, 2008 For the last couple days, when I would click on the word SPEED (thread title) it would take from 20 to 40 seconds to see the thread, now, and I mean right now, it takes 1 second. I have no idea what's up. I'm just passing on info to you, trying to help. Steve
lonestarmedic Posted May 14, 2008 #27 Posted May 14, 2008 I have noticed that tonite the site is running about twice as fast as yesterday. Can't say exactly which items ran slower than others. I figured that it would take a few weeks to tailor the site in for the traffic. No problem as far as I am concerned, just growing pains. JB
MikeM8560 Posted May 14, 2008 #28 Posted May 14, 2008 Its fast to me about 2 seconds to open the page.
az1103 Posted May 14, 2008 Author #29 Posted May 14, 2008 Anytime I open new tread or go to next page it takes as long as 20 seconds to load. I immagine refreshing would be the same although that's not what I was doing. Normally I could switch tread or page practically instantaneously. The problem has only shown up in the last couple of days.
Freebird Posted May 14, 2008 #30 Posted May 14, 2008 Please do me a favor. Are you using the forum with the side menus turned on? If so, click on "Quick Links" and at the very bottom of the list is option that will say "Sidebar Off". Turn the sidebars off and let's see it that helps. If so, I will better know where to look for a problem.
eagleeye Posted May 14, 2008 #31 Posted May 14, 2008 Don, I just did what you asked and turned off the sidebar and it is night and day. the page now instantly loads. Steve
Guest Saddletramp Posted May 14, 2008 #32 Posted May 14, 2008 Seems normal here. Don where is the subscribe key that was mentioned previously?
Freebird Posted May 14, 2008 #33 Posted May 14, 2008 OK...I'll wait for some more input but if that seems to really be the problem, I'll work on the side menus tonight to see what is causing the slow down. The Subscriptions have been moved to your UserCP. If you go to the UserCP and scroll down you'll find "Paid Subscriptions". Yearly and monthly. I've been asked to add more options for amounts and will do that tonight also.
lonestarmedic Posted May 14, 2008 #34 Posted May 14, 2008 Don, I am running on my cell phone connection today so I decided to turn of the sidebars. I went from a 10-20 second page load to a 3-5 second page load. Now, my speed is limited to 2.4mbps because of the bluetooth to my phone. However with this as a constant I can see a difference. JB
az1103 Posted May 15, 2008 Author #35 Posted May 15, 2008 Don, I tried to turn off the sidebar as you requested but I seem unable to do it !!!??? Is there some other way to turn it off?
Bartley Posted May 15, 2008 #36 Posted May 15, 2008 It deffinitely appears slower than usual here. I tried several different sites - all seem pretty normal. I seem to be experiencing slow page reload. Same here. Only this site. Very slow!
Freebird Posted May 15, 2008 #37 Posted May 15, 2008 If you can't turn the sidebar off, then you surely have a cookie issue. You need to clear your cookies and try again.
BOO Posted May 15, 2008 #39 Posted May 15, 2008 Don, I haven't really noticed the site being slow because either the internet or my ISP causes it to be a little slower from time to time. I just tried to turn on the sidebar and I can't get it to come on. Jerry
Freebird Posted May 15, 2008 #40 Posted May 15, 2008 Folks...PLEASE clear your cookies. I know that if you are unable to turn the sidebar on and off, you have old cookies from the other site that are causing duplicates. I had this problem myself and I suspect that is why many of you are having various problems.
Thom Posted May 15, 2008 #41 Posted May 15, 2008 opps , clear my cookies ? i hate to ask this but how do i do it ? Thom
eagleeye Posted May 15, 2008 #42 Posted May 15, 2008 I'll say this, here at home I just turned off the sidebar, like I did at W today, and had the same results. Faster than blazes. Steve
BradT Posted May 15, 2008 #43 Posted May 15, 2008 Folks...PLEASE clear your cookies. I know that if you are unable to turn the sidebar on and off, you have old cookies from the other site that are causing duplicates. I had this problem myself and I suspect that is why many of you are having various problems. I never cleared the cookies, Side bar always on and the site is working fine for me. LEss than 2 seconds to load something after clicking it. Running a laptop with wireless high speed. ONly have one blink of 5 on the wireless connection is classified as poor. However there are times that things slow down but appears to be a computer problem as all sites are slow, when that happens Brad
az1103 Posted May 15, 2008 Author #44 Posted May 15, 2008 Don, You were right about the sidebar. Alter clearing cookies it does turn off. But this also makes the issue absolutely clear; There is a problem with the sidebar, with it slow as molasses without it - it flies!!!!!! So looks like it's the sidebar that's responsible, why it only affects some of us I don't know. But the effect is huge a difference of about 15 seconds!!!!!
Freebird Posted May 15, 2008 #45 Posted May 15, 2008 At least we are narrowing it down. That also means that it is not likely the server. This is driving me NUTS.
BradT Posted May 15, 2008 #46 Posted May 15, 2008 This is driving me NUTS. Good thing you are not far away ! Brad
Freebird Posted May 15, 2008 #47 Posted May 15, 2008 I actually may have JUST found the problem. We'll see. Let me know if it seems better.
az1103 Posted May 15, 2008 Author #48 Posted May 15, 2008 No, sorry but still around ten seconds as comparedto almost instantaneous without sidebar
lonestarmedic Posted May 15, 2008 #50 Posted May 15, 2008 Go to the tools area on Internet explorer and clear the browser history. You can choose to clear all or just parts such as cookies. I also deleted my shortcut in favorites for the site and then recreated it. Just in case there was an I.P. address problem. JB
