Guest tx2sturgis Posted May 13, 2008 #1 Posted May 13, 2008 Got the Bubs mounted today, and also did the AIS plug. Runs good, no discernable lean spots in the fuel delivery. I have made no jetting or air intake changes at all. Mounting was fairly easy, and they sound pretty good. I had made some mods to the stock pipes, so there is not a huge difference in noise around town, at moderate speeds, but the Bubs do 'bark' a bit more on advancing throttle. They seem to radiate more sound to the sides, and have a slightly deeper 'runmbly' tone when idling. All in all, not too loud, just about right. Worth the bucks. I guess in a year, I'll give a report on those endcaps.
Freebird Posted May 13, 2008 #2 Posted May 13, 2008 The end caps are the only complaint I've ever heard about them. When Bub first came out with the mufflers, they used polished billet end caps. Then I think people starting asking for them to be chromed so they changed to chrome. They should have stuck with the aluminum.
Gary N. Posted May 13, 2008 #3 Posted May 13, 2008 I was able to put H.D. fishtail tips on my Bubs. I would think any of the tips available for the Harley mufflers would be just as easy to use too. Just takes a little back yard engineering to make them fit.
Pappa Bear Posted May 14, 2008 #5 Posted May 14, 2008 Dumb question, what exactly is a bub? Is it a stock Harley muffler from a sportster?
Guest tx2sturgis Posted May 14, 2008 #6 Posted May 14, 2008 Nope....its a Bub... http://bub.com/Motorcycles/Yamaha/Yamaha-Cruisers.html I bought the slip-on Bub Sleepers...kept my stock headers.
Gene-b Posted May 14, 2008 #7 Posted May 14, 2008 I put a set of Bub's on my ride last week. I went with the slip on (sleepers) same as tx2sturgis. Took off the stock muffler. I also the closed the AIS. I love the sound and maybe it's me, but I think I have a little more power. I'm at 5280 ft above sea level and everything works great. I rode up to Fairplay on Monday, (aprox 9500 ft above sea level) no back fire at all. So far So good! 1rooster is right "your gonna love those bub's":cool10: Gene
