DANJ Posted May 9, 2008 #1 Posted May 9, 2008 Am changing my oil brand from Amsoil to Mobil 1. Was at Wally's and noticed several different caps and I seem to remember that the gold cap is the one with friction modifiers. Silver cap does not. Is that correct? DJ :confused24:
sarges46 Posted May 9, 2008 #2 Posted May 9, 2008 Couldnt tell ya, but there should be a round stamp or label that will say "energy conserving". Look at the regular oil to see what I mean. The one you want will have the label but the "energy conserving" words are missing.

Was looking at the gallon sized jars, and thought I looked everywhere but couldn't find any wordage specifying energy concerving. I'll go look again. Thanks, DJ
Redneck Posted May 9, 2008 #4 Posted May 9, 2008 All mobile 1 car oils have friction modifiers you don't want them in you bike, they cause clutch slippage. You should use mobile 1 racing 4t formerly known as mx4t they also make v twin oil with additives for the extreme high temperatures of the air cooled v twin. The car oils have little or no phosphorous and zinc because they damage the emission systems. Phosphorous and zinc are added to the motorcycle oils for better lubrication under extreme loads.
