XV1100SE Posted October 22, 2019 #2 Posted October 22, 2019 "With ever-tightening emissions regulations, the era of air-cooled engines is drawing to a close. Euro 5 standards, which go into effect on January 1, 2020, further reduce limits for carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides, and adapting air-cooled engines to meet these standards will become increasingly difficult." Maybe Yamaha will go back to liquid cooled v4 ? :-)

You two lop eared varmints had the same thoughts as I,,, makes one wonder if Mom Yam's fall back to the old school flat tappet, push rodded, air cooled SVTC was a short term plan right from the onset,,,, or is the new Venture built compliant to the new standards/with the new standards in mind and found a way to overcome the ills that air cooled bikes may have with maintaining compliance... It will really be interesting to see how it all plays out,,,, same for HD.. Definitely a GOOD read Leo!! It does show that Polaris is in it for the long haul IMHO,, Polaris must be doing OK with their Indian line sales wise!!! Those dyno numbers on this new "108" sound worthy, cant wait to see how they run! I know that the 1200cc HD V-Rod (not the smaller 1000cc 1st one) my buddy had ran pretty good and could almost keep up with my 85 V-Max thru the gears. Maybe HD will fall back on the water cooled V-Rod motor and adapted it into a touring scoot... Really interesting,, THANKS LEO FOR POSTING THIS!
cowpuc Posted October 22, 2019 #5 Posted October 22, 2019 Looks like Polaris is putting their new "108" in a fixed fairing bagger to start with (unless my eyes are deceiving me,, geezer eyes can do that ya know )... Be wayyyyyyy cool if my favorite bike tester/reporter of all time,, my dear brother @VentureFar ,, could get his hands on one when they are released and do one of his Ultimate reports for us!!!!
djh3 Posted October 23, 2019 #7 Posted October 23, 2019 Hmm I like it. That sucks because now I would have to come up with an excuse to buy one.
N3FOL Posted October 23, 2019 #8 Posted October 23, 2019 I also like the bike itself. The engine appears to have a lot of potential. One more thing to check out this winter. [emoji3][emoji524][emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

BUT I will ask and advise VentureFar...
Red Ryder Posted October 23, 2019 #10 Posted October 23, 2019 Better one? https://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=117880 That is awsome. Looks like the fixed front fairing is similar to the new ventures. Those hp/tq numbers are no doubt at the crank, so rear wheel be about 20% less, still great hp/tq.

In the spirit of bike chit chat and in the love of such,,,, I now can't help but wonder if the SVTC was/is built for the U.S. market,,, does that extend to the Canadian market too or is Canada gonna follow the Euro specs/regulation starting in January?? Reports from those above the northern border were reporting sell-out status of the SVTC right from the get go, seems like Mom Yam would find a way around the Euro regs instead of losing that market if Canada is following Euro specs:think:..
Kohburn Posted October 23, 2019 #13 Posted October 23, 2019 I like that a lot liquid cooled was one of my requirements when looking into getting my first cruiser. that's how I ended up here in v4 territory
Du-Rron Posted October 23, 2019 #14 Posted October 23, 2019 ,,, I now can't help but wonder if the SVTC was/is built for the U.S. market,,, does that extend to the Canadian market too or is Canada gonna follow the Euro specs/regulation starting in January?? Think "North American" market, Canada included. By 2022 Canada may be untouchable due to emission standards. Then the SVTC will be fer sure a USA bike only. https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/news/2018/08/canada-begins-consultations-on-vehicle-emission-standards.html Reports from those above the northern border were reporting sell-out status of the SVTC right from the get go... You mean... they sold ALL TWELVE of them. Arf Arf arf arf arf..:Avatars_Gee_George:

You know, something that no other manufacturer could even come close to competing with ..

I see a LOT of potential for just pulling the air cooled V-twin and stuffing in the 1700cc V-4 Big Block without a whole lot of overall design change,,, probably wouldn't have to even skip a year of production!!! Make those gorgeous fake Fighter Jet scoops fully functional,,, top 1/3 for intakes to feed the Big Block and the lower sections for radiator inputs.. Maybe drop in some stiffer front boingers so when some lop eared young at heart VR member varmint comes down off a 3rd gear wheelie it dont bottom out the suspention and leave fork fluid on the road for all the other touring bikes following it to slip on.. :checkeredflag::checkeredflag:
SpencerPJ Posted October 23, 2019 #17 Posted October 23, 2019 Better one? https://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=117880 Purdy bike, I bet that would put a dent in the ol' savings account
djh3 Posted October 24, 2019 #19 Posted October 24, 2019 Puc I dont know about that. Basically that engine is what 20+ years old design. While it has been tried and proven, chances are it just wont be able to make emissions. Look at all the tried and true car engines that have had to go by the wayside in the last oh say 10 years. Who da thunk a 2.4l engine would pull a 1/4 ton truck? Not me. Heck I had a Mercury Lynks (Escort) that had about that size motor and it sucked in a 2000lb car. Now we are pulling a 4k truck and it make like 300 hp. All the 2 strokers are dead because of emission regs, so look for other long standing motors to go by by.
Du-Rron Posted October 24, 2019 #20 Posted October 24, 2019 Puc I dont know about that. Basically that engine is what 20+ years old design. Puc means the new design fuel injected-O2 sensored-Catalyst wearing-1700-V4 in the current V-Max that could be de-tuned and further "cleaned up".

If that don't clear up my reference,, maybe this little vid will,,, go to 54 seconds in and listen carefully to "wayyyyyy powerful,,,, and ridiculously fun!"

Just scored this additional read on Leo's thread here,,, one that I thought My Lop Eared Brothers Of The Wrench Varmint friends may really enjoy... It's lengthy but very refreshing in a Brotherhood of the Wrench sort of way... @videoarizona ,,, I noticed you been following this,,, I gotta a hunch that you too may REALLY enjoy this = may wanna take a peek brother!! https://www.cycleworld.com/inside-indians-new-powerplus-108-v-twin/
leo3wheel Posted October 25, 2019 Author #23 Posted October 25, 2019 Wow! Much thought went into design of that new engine. Looks like a winner! Thanks Puc!

videoarizona Posted October 25, 2019 #25 Posted October 25, 2019 Agreed. Some good engineering went into that motor. Going to be an HD killer for sure.... Wondering aloud if any Yamaha engineers are looking at their bosses and saying..."See?, I told you..." Thanks Puc...good read.
