BuddyRich Posted May 9, 2008 #1 Posted May 9, 2008 (edited) Its super June bug. Well it flys like one anyway. Even the dogs were avoiding it. How would you like to be riding down the road in TX doing about 70 with no windshield and have one of these hit you right in the forehead. Edited May 9, 2008 by BuddyRich
lonestarmedic Posted May 9, 2008 #2 Posted May 9, 2008 Dang!!! That thing would knock a rider off at anything over 30mph! Save that thing for posterity. Could you imagine the size of the splat on the windshield. Might even crack an acrylic shield. JB
SilvrT Posted May 9, 2008 #3 Posted May 9, 2008 years ago I got hit by something that felt as big as that... I was riding into the sun...windshield was an old one...hard to see out of at the best of time so I was sitting up straight...looking over the top of it when... **wham** ... right on the nose it got me... I almost lost control of the bike...made me jerk my head to the side it hit so hard... slowed down and stopped and blood was streaming from a gash in my nose... damn did that ever hurt!
mini-muffin Posted May 9, 2008 #4 Posted May 9, 2008 Dang what do you folks feed them things down there? :rotf: I heard everything was big in Texas, guess it's true. Margaret
Freebird Posted May 9, 2008 #5 Posted May 9, 2008 Welcome to Texas Buddy. We used to get those by the hundreds when sitting outside at night with the lights on.
Freebird Posted May 9, 2008 #6 Posted May 9, 2008 OH...and they don't bite. You can hold them in your hand.
Black Owl Posted May 9, 2008 #7 Posted May 9, 2008 Hummmmmmmmmm. Can't be a June bug. It's only May........ At least here in the frozen flyover land.

juggler Posted May 9, 2008 #9 Posted May 9, 2008 I had one of those peg me in the center of my face shield the first time I rode a motorcycle. I rung my bell and convinced me to always wear a full face helmet.
sarges46 Posted May 9, 2008 #10 Posted May 9, 2008 Well....let me tell you how it feels getting one of those right tween the lookers! First of all you can see it coming from 3 miles away. It starts as a small dot.....quickly grows larger...then suddenly bam! feels like getting hit by a bird....thing is so hard it didnt even splat! Left a good welt...sort of like a horn starting! It was amazing watch this as it missed the windshield and my glasses and the rim of the helmet...almost like it flew just over the shield and back down to get me.

I had a full faced helmet on with the shield down doing about 70 mph. Broke the faceshield in half and damn near broke my neck it felt like. Almost like I was shot by a gun
mike_kelly_68 Posted May 9, 2008 #12 Posted May 9, 2008 I was living in HI in '91, riding a back rode through the cane fields. I saw it coming what felt like forever still i could not avoid it. Smacked me in the middle of the forehead, sent me for a loop. Had to stop and catch my thoughts they slowed down when it hit me. Ever had a bee stuck up you shorty gloves (throttle hand index finger) at 80MPH on the interstate. you will find out how fast your scooter will go as you twist the throttle trying to get it out in a hurry!!!!!
IH Truck Guy Posted May 10, 2008 #13 Posted May 10, 2008 I'd send it to the tv show Fear Factor.Somebody would eat it.........
SilvrT Posted May 10, 2008 #14 Posted May 10, 2008 Ever had a bee stuck up you shorty gloves (throttle hand index finger) at 80MPH on the interstate. you will find out how fast your scooter will go as you twist the throttle trying to get it out in a hurry!!!!! BEE's !!! when I was young and foolish (now I'm old and foolish!) I rode with a light shirt on held by 2 buttons... felt a BEE trapped between my shirt and my back (shirt was out like a sail in the wind). I musta looked crazy as I rode along, whacking my back trying to kill the bee... finally got it... 2 seconds later, got stung by his buddy that was in there also! 'nuther time, got a BEE between my helmet and my ear... bzzzz bzzzzzzzzz MAN those things are loud and scary... pulled off the road and jumped off the bike before it even came to a stop... yanked my helmet off as the bike fell over... away flew a housfly!! ggrrrrrrrrrrr!!
