The previous owner had approx. 2 " of foam removed from the drivers portion of the seat due to a short inseam. I am 6' 1" and I need the extra height to hopefully remove my knees from the fairing much less the fairing bags. The bottom side seam of the drivers seat is now even with the seat pan so I believe there is about 2" removed. My local shop said they can not get the proper foam to reshape the seat to original specs. What should I expect to pay for a used seat not needing recovered? I have been watching Ebay...what is a 87' seat worth? Once I find a good seat I will have one available to someone who is also inseam challenged, which is in very good to excellent condition and Brown. One other question...are the seats from the 85' and earlier the same as the 86'-93's ? Regards Dave Edited May 8, 2008 by davepa

One other question...are the seats from the 85' and earlier the same as the 86'-93's ? Regards Dave To answer your last question, no they're not the same.....but they will interchange. The earlier models have a narrower passenger seat. The later models have a passenger flair that almost matches the configuration of the riders. I don't see why a good apholstery shop would'nt have a type of foam that would bring your present seat up to something you could live with. I think they just don't want to get involved. Most of the seats I've seen on Ebay lately are a mess and would need to be repaired or recovered. I picked up two seats in mint condition off Ebay for around $65 bucks. Be patient and keep looking.
GigaWhiskey Posted May 8, 2008 #3 Posted May 8, 2008 I think the 85 is a crossover seat. Driver part is 86+ and the passenger part is prior. I think the passenger part on the 85 and older slope in the front, good if you like yer honey up close at stops. I had mine redone by Rick "Butt" Butler. Been happy so far. He removed the slope on the passenger part, he added the foam for what was needed. He did a few other mods as well.

Oh yeah Ill take some pics later so you can see when I get home frome work around 5pm. Catch ya later, Brian:cool10: Edited May 8, 2008 by friesman
davepa Posted May 8, 2008 Author #5 Posted May 8, 2008 Condor...my local shops (3) tell me they can not match the density of motorcycle foam. They are happy to shave foam from the seat but claim thay can not do a satisfactory job replacing. I also am aware that the new staple holes will be present if the fabric is stretched back where it once was. Dave Brian, I will let you know in a few days what I am going to do....Again thanks
