Engine year - how can I tell?

I recently bought an engine for my 2007 royal star. That engine was marked as a 99. How can I tell for sure? The tag says P603E-000822. The block is silver in color. Mine was black. Everything looks the same besides that.

I would call a dealer and ask for service dept. and talk to them. They should be able to help. Why do you need a different engine?

The '99 engines were all silver. Don't remember what year they changed that.
