Don, sorry for my late response but I want to thank you for sharing with us and send sincere wishes for a diagnosis that allows you to deal with your dizziness. Hope your MRI in Sept contributes to that. You have many friends and fans, and you have done so much for your VentureRider family. We all care!

Not long ago I suffered from a sudden case of the dizzies. Was checked out and they could not define my problem at first. Blood pressure was under control and no lead in symptoms. I felt like I was trying to fall down every time I tried to move or stand up. Sitting still or laying down I was just fine. A hearing specialist told me that the problem (symptom related) was that of crystals that build up in the canals of the inner ear that break loose over time and move around. They stimulate things in the ear that have to do with balance and make you think your surroundings are not where they really are. Over time your central nervous system can get use to these though sometimes not. I seem to be adjusting ok. However for those times when I don't they prescribe Meclizine. Essentially seasick meds because I am essentially seasick.. Not a cure but it may help with the symptoms.

I wish you well on your journey.

So sorry to hear of your problems Don, but as we get older things happen. Will pray for a good outcome for your tests and hopefully the docs can get you straightened out. I am beginning to feel the same way about riding, havent done much at all this year or last. I too am thinking about getting rid of my trike as it just sits in the garage gathering dust. I think I have put maybe 500 miles at best in the last two years and I hate to see it go to waste. Charlene is still not able to do any long rides like she used to and it kills her not to be able to ride like we used to. I will likely keep my 81 650 Maxim just to ride around the neighborhood for some cycletherapy but long distance is likely out.

Keep the faith and hang in there. We are all pulling for our Freebird.

Well a new irritating development. My medical insurance is ending on September 9th. I have already arrange and paid for new insurance but just noticed that it doesn't take effect until October 1st. Surprised me because I had to send them documents about when my current insurance was ending so assumed it would start at the same time. I had no choice. I was still on Cobra from my old company and it was only good for 18 months so getting new insurance had to be done.

Oh well. Looks like we will be without insurance for a month so I may have to delay anything for a few weeks. The MRI is scheduled for the Sept. 3rd though so I will get it in at least.

Hopefully it is all something that can be easily resolved. They are looking at my adrenal glands now and I may have to have one of them removed but don't know that yet.

Don, like so many things that transpire being thrown at us. We can get through this with prayers and support. One note, if they haven’t checked already, double check your sodium.

Can you not get your new policy to start sooner?

I don't think so. I don't know why they do it the way they did. The knew when my old insurance was expiring. I don't know if it was by design or what. It was an expensive month for insurance., Had to pay over $2,000 for my final month with my old company and over #2 ,000 to get the new one started. So, almost $4200.00 in insurance premiums this month. Need to sell more stairlifts.

It’s been a long time since I’ve checked in Sorry to hear about your issues. I would also suggest what has already been said: change in BP meds, eyes and ears checked and or vertigo. Whatever the issue is, speedy recovery and know myself and everyone on the VR forum care about you...

My experience with policies is that you pay by the month and your coverage is good until the end of the month . I don't see why your old policy expired in the middle of the month. Even with COBRA, which I'm paying monthly for my wife. Very odd.

Funny, my experience with insurance is that you pay premiums regularly (weekly, monthly or yearly) until it comes time to make a claim. Then the insurance company will wriggle, twist & squirm in an attempt to avoid accepting any liability & paying out anything! Call me cynical.

My Cobra coverage expires on September 2nd. My new policy for some reason doesn't go into effect until October 1st. I think that somebody made a mistake but I've been unable to get it moved up.

So back to your condition, an engineer where I worked a few years back suddenly started having dizzy spells and vertigo, turns out he had an issue with crystals in his inner ear coming dislodged and migrating to places they were not supposed be, doctors put him on meds and her was OK after a bit.

Here something I found on Google. I am certainly no doctor, but maybe something to discuss with yours if the subject has not already been brought up.

'BPPV is a mechanical problem in the inner ear. It occurs when some of the calcium carbonate crystals (otoconia) that are normally embedded in gel in the utricle become dislodged and migrate into one or more of the 3 fluid-filled semicircular canals, where they are not supposed to be."

Nevermind my post - I forgot about your health issues and thought you were referring to bike insurance.

Hope you get better without any heroic efforts!

Good luck Don .sending prayers your way to find the problem.

That is one reason I went to a trike so early in my life. I was getting dizzy also but not bad like you and I was a little tipsy when I would stop.

Best of luck and i will be thinking of you and sending prayer for you

Well, I had to reschedule my MRI and other appointments in September due to the month long lapse in my insurance. I've felt just slightly better over the past week. My wife is probably going to take a trip to Texas to visit her son in Early September and I'm determined to take a ride while she is gone. I have to prove to myself that I can still do it so am thinking about doing an Ironbut. Not sure where yet but I REALLY need to get in the wind for a couple of days at least. We'll see.

I used to take lisinopril too for several years. Seems to be the first bp med the doctors prescribe. I remembered that after taking it for several years, my balance got really bad. When I went to the doctor in FL for my leg blood clot, I requested something else and was prescribed Losartan. I got better, back to normal with my balance afterwards. As I posted before lisinopril is synthetic snake venom and it may very well have been the cause of both of our problems with balance/dizziness. Losartan is not as effective as lisinopril and does not do the job for me by itself so I take a diuretic if my bp goes up too high. It depends a lot on how active I am. If I work hard or exercise hard and sweat a lot it really helps bring the bp down. I usually take Triam/HCTZ 2 or 3 days a week. I betcha it was the lisinopril.

Many people with high bp take 2 or 3 meds, so it's "normal" to take more than one bp med. If I took triam/hctz every day combined with Losartan my bp would never be high but it dries out my joints and makes my arthritis worse so I minimize the triam/hctz. I'm also 75 yrs old and overweight so that doesn't help either. Getting old is not for sissies!
