luvmy40 Posted July 10, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2019 I have decide to go with Shinko 777 HD rubber this time around. I've run Bridgestone Spitfires for decades on my XJ bikes. I ran Bridgestone Battlaxs on my Katana and ode it like it was a GSXR. They performed well, had good life and are affordable. Neither are available for the Venture rear wheel. I used to run Avon Road Runners on my Harleys, but Avon's offerings for the Venture get pretty terrible reviews. I considered going to Dunlop E3s buty the price would not justify any possible increase in mileage. I've never changed a tire because it was too old. I wear them out. So like the tile of thread asks. Where do you get the price on tires? Ive looked at Amazon, JP Cycles, Bike Bandit, Dennis Kirk and Cheap Cycle Parts. So far CCP has given me the best price. Who else is out there? SpencerPJ Posted July 10, 2019 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2019 I miss my Spitfire RWL on my 83. I do like the Shinko tho. My 2 cents, my local MC Shop mounts and balances tires for free if you buy the tires off them, and this more than justified me buying online and paying (I think $25/wheel). I got my Dunlop E3s at Dennis Kirk, at the time it was the best price I could find but it's been more than a year. I would buy them again.
Du-Rron Posted July 10, 2019 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2019 Where do you get the price on tires? Try your local dealer. Give them a chance. Let them know you have been price shopping but would rather spend your money local. You may be surprised to see they can meet/beat the price. gmarshall Posted July 10, 2019 Share #5 Posted July 10, 2019 I think you’ll like the Shinto tire.
luvmy40 Posted July 10, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted July 10, 2019 I had been running the 230 Tour Masters but I'm blowing through a rear tire every season and the front only lasts 2 seasons. I'm hopping for a little better wear from the 777s.
BlueSky Posted July 10, 2019 Share #7 Posted July 10, 2019 When I was looking recently, it appeared that Chaparral had the best prices. I ended up buying from DennisKirk though.
slowrollwv Posted July 11, 2019 Share #8 Posted July 11, 2019 (edited) Have you tried Rocky mountain ATV and MC. They took over Jake Willson and had decent prices and free delivery. Edited July 11, 2019 by slowrollwv
djh3 Posted July 11, 2019 Share #9 Posted July 11, 2019 For years Motorcycle Superstore was my go to place. But they got bought out by J&P, so now not the most cost effective place. I am currently also looking for tires for the Victory. Put a Shinko 777 on last year got about 8k on it. I think I'm going with a Continental ContiTour. Still trying to figure out best price, but Cycle Gear has been looking good for my tire. I tried to look up the last place I bought tires and their web site is no longer up. Jake Wilson didnt come up either, but last time I got a tire from them it was over a year old.
luvmy40 Posted July 11, 2019 Author Share #10 Posted July 11, 2019 The local Yamaha dealership is 40% higher on their tires and they charge $40.00/tire off the bike for mount and balance. An after market shop is 30% higher on tires and wants $20.00/tire off the bike for mount and balance. The dealership's prices on Yamaha OEM parts are sometimes competitive and usually not very much more than Partzilla when you look at shipping added. I'll check at Rocky Mtn. ATV. So far, Cheap Cycle Parts . Com has the best price I've found and, at least for the time being are offering free shipping on orders over $99. luvmy40 Posted July 11, 2019 Author Share #11 Posted July 11, 2019 Thanks for all the input. I checked everywhere I could find, including those suggested here and Cheap Cycle Parts . com was the lowest price including shipping(free). I just ordered a set of the Shinko 777s. HD on the rear but no HD available for the front from anyone. When these arrive I will have 7 tires to mount and balance. I'm going to give the Harbor Freight tire changer and wheel balancers a work out! I'll try to get some video of the process.
slowrollwv Posted July 11, 2019 Share #12 Posted July 11, 2019 Throw the tires and wheels in the truck and come on over. We con mount them all in a day and not be wore out doing them. My NO-MAR tire changer is a cinch to use and no scratched wheels.
luvmy40 Posted July 11, 2019 Author Share #13 Posted July 11, 2019 5 of the wheels are for the truck! I've done quite a few mods on the HF changer. Rubber coated clamps, Nylon ducks head mount/dismount tool head, etc. It's still not as nice as the NoMar stuff, but close.
