luvmy40 Posted June 12, 2019 #1 Posted June 12, 2019 I know have a mission for Maintenance Day, Whoo hoo! I mean, Bummer! The Beast's speedo quit working while out CTFW this evening. Never made a sound, just quit.
bongobobny Posted June 13, 2019 #2 Posted June 13, 2019 If you are lucky, the cable just snapped. If you are not so lucky, the cable snapped because the gears on the odometer seized up which is unfortunately a somewhat common occurrence...
Chaharly Posted June 13, 2019 #3 Posted June 13, 2019 I had a speedo cable fall out while going down the road. Hopefully its something easy like that

luvmy40 Posted June 13, 2019 Author #5 Posted June 13, 2019 I checked the connection at the wheel and tried to reach up and check at the console but there's no room to get at it without removing plastics. I can't remember if the speedo cable is secured by anything other than the connection at the console or not, but it is not falling free and I can't pull it down/out. I'll rig up a mount for my phone somewhere and run a GPS speedo ap for the ride to MD.

On my 83, if you take the bezel off headlight (2 screws on bottom), then take out headlight, 2 screws, you can get to the cable at the back of the CMS. It's only secured with a screw connection. However, I also recall, if you loosen up screw down low, you can pull cable out (and at least see if it's broken)
