Muleshoe Meet-n-Eat (1st annual!)

These pics are for the Four Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty One Members who were not able to make the First Annual Muleshoe Meet-n-Eat, held in good ol' Donkey Slipper U.S.A.

 

In attendance were myself, Cliff, and Jessica...hey its a start!

First, a stop in Earth to let yall know that there IS a town near here that our world was named after. Some folks think its the other way around...whats up with that?

Next we had a meal at a nice little Mexican Restaurant called Leal's. (Thats pronounced Lee- Al's for you yanks!) Decent food, cute women, although we all noticed something 'strange' about our waiter. Oh well...

 

After the meal, we swapped bikes and Cliff rode my gen2 Venture (with Jessica as navigator), and I rode his gen1 Venture. First time for each of us to ever ride the other side. We both enjoyed it, and learned some new stuff.

 

We rode out to this little place in the country, where Cliff had some trading to do, and then we visited and said our good-byes.

 

A nice afternoon putt, met some good people from the forum here, and I rode back home. Lookin forward to next years event!!

Hey Hip!...funny that you asked it that way.

 

Hey, I like the big heavy bikes...and of course I like the feet forward, barco-lounger ergos that the gen2 provides. Thats why I bought one. The gen 1 has more of a feet down and back position, ( sit up straight, young man!) and seems much narrower along the middle section, due of course to the tank not being up topside. Seems like Yamaha was aiming more for a sport-touring rider for the gen1, and no-one is surprised to learn this, are they? Since the foot controls and pegs are inline with where I normally put my feet down, I did lightly bang my ankles on them a few times, and that of course would disappear with familiarity. I much prefer my feet-forward, footboard equipped gen2 in that regard.

 

On the gen1, the fairing is frame mounted, so at first, it takes a minute for my eyes to adjust to the different sightlines that the gen1 provides. This is most noticable at slow speeds, when you turn the bars more left and right. (hey whats all that non-moving stuff in front of me???) I have ridden (not owned) only two other bikes with this configuration, an 1800 Goldthing™ and a HD RoadGlide...so its not in my normal 'comfort-zone' Just would take some getting used to. And no engine whine? Hello??? Aint this the same motor?

 

The fairing seems farther out when riding, but the mirrors are wonderful...you can see half the planet with those things! And I like having little niceties like...oh I dunno....a TACH! and a TEMP! gage...I want those on my gen2...but unless you add something that LOOKS 'added on'...you cant get there from here. I did notice that the fairing, trunk and bags on the gen1 seem to be designed to last..if not forever, at least until global oil is all dried up. On my gen2, I'm not so sure they will last till next year. Time will tell.

 

It seemed weird at first to be riding a bike that was so 'foreign' feeling, yet that same user-freindly motor was under there, somewhere, saying 'hi neighbor, lets do this'.

 

We didnt have a little suspension pump to adjust the rear shock on my bike for Cliff and Jessica, so I'm thinking that they did not get the proper ride from my gen2. Still, I believe Cliff enjoyed the bike. Jessica mentioned that she was sitting much higher up...catching more wind, but that she had more room for her legs and feet. Passenger ergos on the gen2 are pretty good, from the navigators I have given rides to. Lots of room to relax.

 

Hopefully, Cliff will fill us in with a report from his side of the 50 yard line. Hey, lay it out buddy, some guys will want the facts, and I'm very thick skinned. Reports with 'warts' are the most useful!

Funny you are commenting on the difference between 1st and 2nd gen, Took my wife for her first long ride on the 06 RSV today, first thing she noticed was all the noise, both wind and whine, she didnt care for it at all. Guess will be looking into the xxl clearveiw. Then she was surprised at all the shifting I needed to do to maintain speed in the hills, with all the noise she wasnt able to hear the radio. She did think the seat was very comfortable, but didnt like that she couldnt put her arms up on the backrest, like she could on 1st gen. I was surprised to find my rite hand falling asleep, sure missed not being able to adjust fairing vents? I liked the feet forward position and the looks, but I think the 87 was a better bike. Craig

Yeah Hip...I think it comes down to this:

 

For the gen1...large bear-sized folks need not apply. For the gen2...thats exactly the demographic they were shooting for. Its all about comfort. I'm all 'moved in' to my 2gen, and I'm happy about it. Nuff said!

I forgot to mention...we both had a good laugh at the stock horn on my gen2 ...and now Cliff knows why yall put wake-the-dead Stebels on the RSV!

I and Jessica Throughly enjoyed todays M&E and plan on attendening the next one for sure. Had a great day visting and the events were awesome. I and navigator really enjoyed the ride on Txsturs' bike handled like a dream I did hear the clutch whine but wasnt really anoying at all and Jess said she didnt notice it. I did notice a "different" top heavy that I lift with my leg on the 1 gen and felt necessary to use more arm to relieve the kick stand of its burden on the 2 gen, gravy after that very comfy for me and Jess said she really liked abit more seat but missed the arm rests and felt more wind and "higher" up and we both had more leg room, I noticed a passenger less on the 2 gen and felt more stable on the dirt/sand with the 2 gen. I think I'll stay with my one gen for the moment (until I run across a deal I cant pass) but is nice to know I have a newer alternative because I love the v4. arm rests and a taller windshield for Jess the deal wont have to be as good.

Actually it was just a spur of the moment idea in the chatroom saturday nite......Cliff had mentioned that he had not yet rode a 2nd gen, and the dealer had one, but would not allow demo rides...so I offered...what the heck, we met kindve half-way...all is good...now back to the Canada Nine Person Rally.
