School shooting at UNC Charlotte. Two dead two with serious injuries and others injured. Sophmore student arrested.

Why does this happen??? I can't wrap my head around it. I have had weopons for hunting since ten years old and never thought about shooting a human. Even when I was a deputy I never considered it.

 

We need God back in our country and now.

Movies and video games glorify shooting and I really believe that is part of the problem. Add to that so many kids grow up without a father disciplining them.

Because you just press "triangle" and you get a new life. Or so they think. I only wish we could figure out what the heck is wrong with these people. How does a guy swear an oath to defend his country then watch a video on the interweb and become a mass murder for the same enemy he fought against? I think maybe some of it is these kids dont even know what a "real weapon" can do when you shoot someone. Because they have lived in this cocoon of safety.

IMHO, both Sly and DJ are onto some of the reasons why it is what it is:

As part of a thesis I had to do to escape the throngs of College education so I could obtain a sheepskin so I could earn a good living so I could provide for my family, I had to go out and interview some prominent people and write about the interviews. I landed an interview with Judge Mike Kobza. In that interview, Judge Kobza started explaining to me about some of the cases he had presided over. As the discussion went on it occurred to me that he kept referring to "the epidemic of broken homes we have in our country". I actually stopped my recorder at one point, looked at the Judge and said "off the record and just between you and me, can you seriously make a link between broken homes, kids without Dads or Moms and criminal activity?". His answer about knocked me off my chair.. He said "you can turn that thing back on as I can, on record, state that over 90% of the people locked up in our correctional facility are from broken homes :scared:"..

As far as Sly's comment of "we need God back in our country and NOW" goes:

IMHO, I agree. For some reason we have lost the reality of our need for The Lord and His connection with the wholesomeness of being "One Nation, Under God". We have lost the reality of the simple fact that God is real and, because of this, we have lost the reality of the fact that so is evilness. That Satan really does roam about like a roaring lion searching for souls to devour. I know thats hard to hear.. I get that, but facts are facts and until we face the truth and facts before us head on and, as individuals, deal with those facts head on, IMHO = things are only gonna get worse, not better. This battle and the loss of human life that comes with it is actually a war between good and evil. Our Politicians have for years danced around the real issues with their continual reterich of = "it's a guns fault, it's our educational systems fault, its pressure cookers fault, it's a car's fault". One can hope and pray that sooner or later (hopefully, for the sake of our children, its sooner rather than later) we will elect people who are smart enough and brave enough to step forward and call a spade a spade and be willing to face the truth head and be willing to take the actions necessary to upright the ship we are all sailing on... Prayers Up that that takes place.

Just to add to this.

Puc is right on, thanks Puc. Yes there is good and evil, there always has been and will continue to be until the end of the age as we know it today. Can we do anything about it? We can help here and there, but set it all straight? Not likely!! The world has been going to hell in a handbasket ever since the fall of man. We think that today society has gone or is going for a real poop,, well think again. Read the history books, see what some other nations and tribes are still doing,, and yes! it is getting worse, but the history ain't so pretty either.

The best we can do is to educate our fellow humans in the fact that there is a light at the end of this tunnel and that after this life, a life of peace and perfection is available,, all because the Son of the Creator decided that we were worth dying for.

We can try to legislate peace, but it won't happen, we can try to force peace and we will fail, but each of us can love our fellows and be a winner, and the best love we can show is to tell the truth: there is a way to peace and happiness and security, but only One way.

If you look at the statistics, violent crime in general is down dramatically in the USA. Murder rate is down. Something like 80% of homicide is gang related. Mass killings are neither up nor down statistically over the last 100 years. The media coverage of the mass killings, as long as they are perpetrated by non muslims and involve guns that is, has increased a thousand fold over the last 30 years.

 

Most criminals convicted of violent crimes are recidivist offenders. Some have been arrested 20-30 times.

 

Legal gun ownership in the USA has increased by 50% over the last decade or so. The number of violent crimes with a gun committed by legal gun owners is statistically insignificant.

 

The guns ain't the problem.

Misled religious fanatic extremists, street gangs, poverty, broken homes and bleeding hearts (usually people who have never suffered an injustice) all help to contribute over the centuries with regards to crime.

Now toss in blood and guts video games and overly explicit movies and things start going from bad to worse. Lets not forget those who by both legal and illegal means stand to profit due to war and crime. It all contributes. Oh and lets not forget some of the popular so called music that glorifies street violence which produces so many gangster type wanna be's of which some actually escalate beyond just being a wanna be. Last but not least population explosion also contributes as man both on an individual bases as well as a group bases tries to either just survive or even dominate.

 

Stress also becomes an issue as electronic progress and population increases continues to create a world that becomes harder to survive in because life is no longer about simply acquiring and understanding the basics to live. The electronic world has made life very steessful and demanding.

IF we were talking ten, or even five years ago, we'd point The Finger directly at Television Coverage.

 

But these days, while TV still plays a prominent role, you have to add The Net as arguably an even worse contributor to The Cause.

 

EVERYBODY has TV, and MOST have Internet access to influence thoughts leaning toward Violence. Heck, you can even find Instructions to build a Weapon. AND there's no way to Police or Regulate any INFO on The Net.

 

The Slippery Slope has become a Circus Ride.

Mental illness is just what it is. Mental illness. If you refuse to recognize that it exists, this tragic event is the result. This country has turned it's back on this issue for a very long time. It's not the Law. It's not the guns. It's the road blocks that prevent us from dealing with the reality that some folks just aren't right. No federal or state law can replace responsible adults that could have intervened in this young man's life arc. I'll light up this comment later. I have to get to bed.

If one reads history will one find the meaning of community?

 

Cities have very little sense of community. People today stair straight ahead, lock their doors to and from work and gatherings. Who among us share moral values or take the time to listen to a saddened or lost soul? We judge more often than not and usually after the fact.

Parents not all of course but too many have no clue how to be parents so, without compassion of community minds form strange self darkened destructive paths bend on disorder and punishments on our innocent unsuspecting defenseless love ones.

 

Perhaps it is time to make accountable the parents? If they can show society that they have tried but failed then perhaps, the community with all its resources can intervene before lives are lost or destroyed?

 

One way or another we have to hold the key to solving this breakdown in our societies. If not then the up coming generations will be ruled by weapons not them ruling over the weapons.
