funrider Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Just got my bike running and can now tell that there is a problem with the clutch. It has had a squeak as long as I have had the bike but was unable to tell where it was and what was causing it. My clutch had started to slip so I put two flex plates in the clutch to stiffen it up and now I can tell that the squeak is coming form the clutch area. With the clutch released, the squeak is real loud, but when you pull the clutch lever, the squeak goes away almost completely. Any Idea what is causing it and how hard to fix it will be? All help will be appreciated. Thanks
Squeeze Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 That's the Ball Bearing in the Clutch Pressure Plate. Modified(better heat resistance) standard 6003 me thinks.
funrider Posted May 4, 2008 Author Posted May 4, 2008 Squeeze, If it is that bearing, is it something that I need to worry about, and how hard is it to replace? Thanks
Squeeze Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Replacement is not that hard, undo the Clutch Cover and the Pressure Plate, press or slightly tap the Bearing out of the Pressure Plate, insert new Bearing, remount everything, done. If you need to worry about it ? I don't know, it usually takes some Time until this Bearings falls apart. But as you recently worked on the Clutch you might save the Gasket. You can either buy a standard Bearing or the Yammi Thing. The Standard Bearing will go south earlier than the Yammi, but how long the Standard Bearings holds up ?? 3 Years ? 5 Years ? Depends how often you hold the Clutch at Lights while in Gear. If you can find a Market Brand Bearing, SKF, Timken, Koyo or such .. purchase a C3 Version. This stands for extended radial Freplay.
