Looks like I will have to take the cage to Freebirds this year and I will be bringing the family so we decided to make a vacation of it. Our plan is to leave Appleton WI on the 10th and make our way out to Niagara Falls. We will spend some time out there exploring then head out to Freebirds. I would like to ask if there are any members along our potential route that would be willing to let us toss a tent up in their yard for a night. We are hoping stay in the Michigan, Indiana, Ohio area on the night of the 10th. For the nights of the 11th and 12th, we are hoping to stay around the Pennsylvania, New York, Canada side of the falls. My wife wants a hotel for the night of the 13th before heading to Freebirds on the 14th. Please let me know if anybody is able to help with a patch of grass for a tent. Thanks in advance.

You are plenty early for this seeing as we have hardly even thought about who, where and why. But I can see the merit.

You would be welcome to visit our place in Brantford but we are about an hour or away from the Falls. stickhandle2 lives in Welland and I'm quite sure would be more than happy to have you visit with them, they are about 20 minutes from the Falls, but you'd have to check with them,, Mike and Tammy.

dogman also lives not too far away with easy access, and would be an excellent host. Dave and Bernie.

Normally we go as a group from S.Ontario on Friday leaving Grimsby around 9 am and arriving in the Oberlin area between 4 and 5 in the afternoon, just in time for dinner, taking I90 most of the way. You'd be welcome to hook up with us if so desired.

Ready I dont know if you folks are coming across on the Ferry and/or gonna be traveling the west coast of Michigan but if you are and need a spot to drop a tent, our yard is always open for such and if we are home you are more than welcome to camp inside with us - several club members have done so thru the years and the ones who did are still in one piece so that offer comes with references:big-grin-emoticon:. If you are pulling a travel trailer and need "Full Hookups w/ dump station", one of Michigans nicest State Parks are located within a stone throw right down the road from us too so there's that.i

Also keep in mind that Michigan's State Lands and Federal Forests are still considered owned by "We The People" and you can legally pull off the road and camp on those lands for free. As a result of being spoiled a little by such traditional American freedom (I am a native Michigander), over the decades of CTFW I can only think of a couple times that I/we ended up needing to grab a motel as those always tended to be a little to confining when compared to tenting for my likings but I do know there are several of them also in the area. I have "State and Federal Lands" camped in all 48 of the lower States and have only been kicked off of our U.S. property a couple times and those couple times were in a State far from where you will be traveling (California). It might be in your best interest, especially if you will be traveling with camping gear in tow, to plot a course over State/Federal Lands cause there are many GORGEOUS sights and sounds that are often missed by modern day travelers.

I am EAST of Niagara Falls about an hour in the western suburbs of Rochester, just off I-90 about 20 minutes. We have plenty of room for a tent. And I am leaving Friday morning for Freebirds. I probably will meet with Bongobob and the crew from Canada in Erie, PA.

We have a spare guest room for your use. Also, we have two small dogs (15 lbs.), so you need to be pet friendly.

If you want more details PM me.

You are welcome at our home either before MD or after. We are in Grimsby Ontario, which is approx 30 minutes drive to Niagara Falls (Canadian side).

We may leave on the Thursday to go to MD as my wife will be coming for her first time and we may make a bit of a mini vacation out of it and stay and extra day on our way home.

Dr appt has changed our travel plans. If everything works out we'll head out on the 9th and slowly work up to Niagara and maybe hook up with y'all on Friday for the ride to Don's. Having to do the trip in reverse to be back sooner.

Hey, get in touch with the WNY crew when you are up here, we will gladly schedule a M&E and show you around the area. As far as the ride down there is a distinct possibility I may cage it due to health reasons but that is up in the air but you are welcome to hook up anyway...

That sounds great. Loose planning has us leaving on the 9th and going to Lexington to spend the night with the kids. Leave there on the 10th and take a couple days touring around to get to your area on the 11th or 12th. Would love to meet up with some of the West NY crew, maybe even a little ice cream. It doesn't give us as much time as originally planned but I have to be back to dr.

Sad news. Unfortunately, we will be canceling our trip. It turns out that our insurance didn't cover as much as we were hoping when I had my heart attack earlier this year. I want to sincerely thank everyone who offered to have us stay with them. We will attempt this trip next year. I want to wish everyone a happy and safe weekend.

Hey Bob we left a day late, the kids came home for the weekend. We've made it to Huntington WV today and should be near you tomorrow evening. If the invitation is still open for a meet and eat sometime Wednesday or Thursday I really like to eat. Would be good to meet some of the WNY crew.

OK, Ron! Give me a call at my home number first or then my cell. Do you know where you will be staying? This would help in picking out a spot for dinner. My home is about an hour SE of Buffalo but members around here are scattered all over the area. Big Tom is hosting guests from Iceland but hopefully they can come as well!!

Other than seeing the falls we don't have any plans. We're just going to explore around and see what we find for two days. Never been in NY so it's all new to us. We're picking hotels on the fly so the location doesn't matter to us. Whatever is convenient for y'all works for us.

OK! You may want to consider lodging somewhere near the Buffalo Airport either on Genessee Street or Transit Road as a central location which will put you about an hour away from the falls. You get a better view of the falls from the Canadian side but you need either a passport or an enhanced drivers licence (regular driver's licence does not cut it) to cross the border, and leave you guns at home. Also, Niagara Falls, Canada is an even bigger tourist trap than Niagara Falls, USA is, but it is indeed a site to see!

Our latest hot spot for the Buffalo area is downtown at what is called Canalside but parking can be a bit of a pain. There is a lot of history down there. Other than that there is a lot of beautiful countryside to explore especially to the east and the south. There is a lot to be seen in the area and one would really need at least a week to scratch the surface!

You're in luck, we are supposed to be rain free both Wednesday and Thursday but it will be a little chilly with the temps only in the 60's. Friday will bring showers but no downpours to my knowledge. If you like, you can meet up with me and Jaycee's Folly at my place for the trip down, we leave here at 10:00. I am caging it but Jim is riding his beautiful purple 1st gen, and we are meeting up with the Canadian riders at noon just north of Erie, PA for lunch at the TA truck stop on I90...

We headed out Monday and made it to the Canadian border Tuesday evening. Got a room and supper and saw the falls lit up at night. Went back and toured the falls this morning before crossing back to the US side and touring our side and we rode the Maid of the Mist. That was enough of crowds and congested traffic for us. We headed south and ended up at the Seneca tribe casino for the night. First time I've ever stepped in a casino, since I didn't have a clue what I was doing and I'm cheap I set down at a penny slot. Turned $5 into $140 so the room and supper were covered by their money. Tomorrow we'll ride the state park and ease up to Bongo's area to get ready to head for Don's Friday morning. Hoping to maybe meet a few of the WNY group if they have time tomorrow evening.
