Du-Rron Posted April 10, 2019 #1 Posted April 10, 2019 (edited) Just to see how the other V-4's live... how about 5th gear wheelies at 193mph as you shift into sixth? https://www.cycleworld.com/2019-aprilia-rsv4-1100-factory-first-ride-review When is the last time you read a motorcycle review where "brake fade" was a real concern? SpencerPJ Posted April 10, 2019 #3 Posted April 10, 2019 Be nice to rip on one down a country road, once or twice
cowpuc Posted April 10, 2019 #4 Posted April 10, 2019 WOW WOW WOW WOWZY WOW WOW WOW :178::178:,,, talk about taking care business :guitarist 2::guitarist 2: While I LOVE Maggie (my R1), I could live with that under powered (torque) puny little, wont get out of its own way V-4 :cool10:.. Speaking of puny little liter superbikes,, I was watching Jay Leno play around on one of those new H2 boosted Kawies.. My face was plastered against the screen and Tip was giving me the as I screamed "COME ON JAY,, AT LEAST GET IT PAST 1/8th THROTTLE SO WE CAN SEE WHAT IT WILL DO A LITTLE",,, after his putzy little ride where he never got into the HP (above 5200 R's) and stayed strickly in the Torque zone,, Jay gets off and states,, ohhh yea,, it scared me - it is FAST AWESOME thread Duey,, THANKS!! BlueSky Posted April 11, 2019 #5 Posted April 11, 2019 Lifting the front wheel at 193mph with a top speed of 217mph. Nah, I'll call BS on that one.

Du-Rron Posted April 11, 2019 Author #7 Posted April 11, 2019 Lifting the front wheel at 193mph with a top speed of 217mph. Nah, I'll call BS on that one. You did get that this is no track bike. This is a streetbike that YOU can buy. It has working headlight, turnsignals, and even a place to bolt a license plate. And... oh yeah... the carbon fiber brake ducts to delay the onset of ... "brake fade"... WOW!

cowpuc Posted April 11, 2019 #9 Posted April 11, 2019 Lifting the front wheel at 193mph with a top speed of 217mph. Nah, I'll call BS on that one. :rotf::rotf: While I will join Duey on the :rotf::rotf: Sky I really have to do so tongue and cheek.. Having spent an ample amount of time riding an OLD Liter Bike (R1) that is probably down by +50 HP on this modern day, injected (my R1 is Carbed) and tuned to perfection with its turner scoot and I honestly have a hunch that +190 MPH wheelies are no problem for that scoot.. Not saying you, but many people fail to understand Horsepower and how it builds once the engine R's cross past 5250 into the HP zone.. If you followed a dyno graph on this Aprilla and watched the HP continue building as it approached its redline of 14,500 rpm and then combined that with the fact that these scoots are designed to very easily handle speeds (as long as the rider stays in the pocket of air inside the fairinged body) in the 200 mph zone without much of a different feeling in control (just dont stick your hand outside of the air foil) or performance to that of a normal bike at 90 or 100 mph you would probably see the possibility of truth to their claim. One of the reasons (besides affordability) that I really wanted, and bought the earlier R1 as a bucket list bike was because I knew that shortly after the year of my bike the Feds started regulating max MPH. I would not be surprised to find out that the Aprila is actually bouncing off an electronic speed limiter at 217... Personally,, if I had to place money on whether or not the Aprilla would loft at +190,, we would be bettin against each other
WRIDR Posted April 11, 2019 #10 Posted April 11, 2019 For starters, there may be additional 'slippage' leaking out of this 76 yr old brain, but we're thinking The Wee Beastie is actually quite pretty! But... running/riding ANYTHING at over 300 kph, in our opinion is downright suicidal. Simply no time to react to any unexpected situation, and we don't consider that Fun. NUTS maybe; definitely not FUN. Rgds, WRIDR
cowpuc Posted April 11, 2019 #11 Posted April 11, 2019 they ever put a shaft drive on a H2 or an Aprilla and I am uncorking the 401K. I hear that brother,, I TOTALLY HEAR THAT!! Matter of fact,, if Mom Yam would have listened to us lop eared V-4 venture rider varmints instead of letting the air cooled V-Twin Star riders dictate the build of the new Venture and read our VR family''s input before they started production found here (still a GREAT read IMHO): https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?102280-Let-the-discussion-begin And, in my case, even if she would have remotely followed my wish list therein of: """"I have been a Yamaha enthusiast for many many years and they have proven to me over and over again that they are TOPS!! Owned a couple early YZ monoshock MX bikes way back and they were AWESOME!! My little RD350 and RD250 (remains still in my basement) were giant killers - proving Yamaha's superiority in R&D!! My 73 XS650 beat across the country with me on its back several times, chopped it and rode it many more miles until sold. Bought a brand new 650 Special, AWESOME "cloned" mini Harley that saw the west too!! My faith in mother Yamaha has been proven 5 times over by my continual riding of the 1st Gen Ventures starting in 1987 until present day with my 83 that has almost 300k on it!! Fact is, folks at Yamaha, I AM READY FOR THE NEXT PHASE!! All that said, here is my feeble wish list: 1700cc V-4 "V-Max" motor.. Detune it if you must (just like before) but please,, dont do another V-Twin - got enough of em.. You guys can do it,, I KNOW YOU CAN!! Shaft drive! EFI with a tunable tuner - even if its an add on - please provide one so we can tune it!! LED lighting. Engine guarding and saddle bag guarding. Adjustable bars like on the first gen. Factory tank and windshield bags. Fixed Fairing. Get the same Doctors who advised you on constructing the seat of the 1st Gens (cant remember what you call those guys) to advise you on this one - my kids, wife and I LOVE what they did!! Keep the seat height difference between the rider and passenger no more than 3 inches (2 is great) - raising the passenger higher causes weight imbalance and makes slow speed riding harder. Ease of removal of the trunk(s) for changing rear tire. Center stand. Forward boards with normal foot pegs located rearward so standing up while riding is still possible, shift and brake levers at both locations (no heal toe please). Hand warmers. Key removable rear trunk and bags. Grease zerks on all main pivot points. High output stator even though it has LED's. Double check the gear sets in the tranny and make sure they ramp up solidly. Oversized clutch to insure NO slippage in high gears with xtra weight. 42 millimeter front fork tubes with progressive springs. Imbed reflective tape (or use reflective paint) in paint lines (like pin striping) so all profiles of bike light up when grazed by car lights. Add a large foot onto side stand - tired of bending over to pick up stand plate after parking on loose ground. Explore which tire sizes are the most common and build around those standards so tire choices and finding them are easy. Remember those long grips you used on the first gens? Use those, I love bending them back onto my knees. Enclose the motor well to keep ANY objectional heat off both riders BUT - use lots of venting with plenums to act as heaters when needed. Windshield it so the rear rider remains in the protective air pocket - functional vents in shield and fairing to adjust air movement if needed (hey,, could be asking for servo operated shield but I dont care for more things to go wrong). 6 speed Over drive tranny. Use GOOD solder, especially with ECU pins. QC the daylights out of it! DONT go cheap and trust the Chinese!! Dont short us on wire harness leads so wiring is tight - xtra 1/4 inch really helps!! Make fairing panels easy to remove but not so they fall off. Supply printable shop manual disc and printed well written owners manual. Supply GOOD factory tire pressure guage. Chrome is out for me, I LOVE dull stainless (like the pipes on the "New" V-Max),, matter of fact,, build mine with no rustable chrome and all dull stainless!! Intercom, CB and radio would be nice.. Keep the tape deck. OK, if you REALLY are reading this and you like what I am talking,, PLEASE make mine just a little faster in stock form than anyone elses.. Not that I would ever use the extra pazzaazz but I have buddies that I gotta compete with and just KNOWING I have the fastest one would be worth an extra grand to me:big-grin-emoticon: I KNOW you can do it!! Keep the faith mother Yamaha - I AM!! Puc""" I would have joined you (and, after reading thru that thread again, along with numerous other club members) Duey in ripping into retirement funds,,, there is just something about being able to reliably go real fast real fast if you want to but yet piddle paddle puddly around all day in the desert at a measly +100 mph CTFW and watching the miles disappear around you.. By the way,, I think that Aprila is GORGEOUS:missingtooth:
djh3 Posted April 11, 2019 #12 Posted April 11, 2019 But does it come with a life time of chiropractor appointments paid for?
WRIDR Posted April 11, 2019 #13 Posted April 11, 2019 Migawd Pucster, you have built The Bike we would cheerfully kill for! Don't care about CO$T. If necessary to dig up every sock buried in the backyard, we'd do it to own that Bike! And we'd bet lotsa other Folks would too. Rgds, WRIDR
Du-Rron Posted April 11, 2019 Author #14 Posted April 11, 2019 I hear that brother,, I TOTALLY HEAR THAT!! Matter of fact,, if Mom Yam would have listened to us lop eared V-4 venture rider varmints... Oh yeah I am with you! Maybe we will have some neat addition to what they already have around 2025...
Du-Rron Posted April 11, 2019 Author #15 Posted April 11, 2019 But does it come with a life time of chiropractor appointments paid for? NO... Lifetime dental plan.... to wipe that smile off n your face!!!!! Arf Arf Arf Arf..... :smile5::smile5:
Du-Rron Posted April 11, 2019 Author #16 Posted April 11, 2019 Migawd Pucster, you have built The Bike we would cheerfully kill for!... Exactly
Du-Rron Posted April 11, 2019 Author #17 Posted April 11, 2019 ,,, there is just something about being able to reliably go real fast real fast if you want to ... Sometimes I have to read things a couple of times to get them. "go real fast real fast" is a neat way to put that.
cowpuc Posted April 11, 2019 #18 Posted April 11, 2019 Sometimes I have to read things a couple of times to get them. "go real fast real fast" is a neat way to put that. Yea,, I know, I think I fell on my head one to many times as a kid Duey cause sometimes I am REALLY hard to follow but,, given a second thought - I would say that over 50% of the time, what I say really does make sense.
Du-Rron Posted May 14, 2019 Author #19 Posted May 14, 2019 In this video he says... "you can adjust how much WHEELIE CONTROL you want independently from traction control..." Oh lawdy... just hand me my checkbook already.
