Rocket Posted May 14, 2008 Share #27 Posted May 14, 2008 Ok sync'ing the carbs I understand. But what is color-tuning? The next question is, HOW??? Is there anyone in Denver, CO that knows how? Merlin If I'm not mistaken, you colour tune first before syncing the carbs. The colour tune is a tool to get your idle fuel mixture, fine tuned. Some of us just set the mixture screw at 2.25 turns out. Both the colour tune & carb tune are made by the same company (see attached link). It would be best, for another member that has done this before, to perform this initially. http://www.carbtune.co.uk/c.com/index.html http://www.carbtune.co.uk/c.com/colortune.html
Guest tessa c2 Posted May 14, 2008 Share #28 Posted May 14, 2008 sounds like you just experianced your first shot of 10% ethonal in your gas, you might as well keep a couple of cheep in line filters handy for a while, till you get your gas tank cleaned out, they have a metal tank just check to see if there is rust in there, changing the filters isn't that bad. the yamaha ones are a bit pricey so that is why take the old one and, Up here we have Canadian Tire, where they have a selection of filters sitting on the shelve sojust match one up for it's lenght and hose diameter, and get a couple they will probably cost you a 10th of the yamaha one. and carry the screwdriver and plyers in the pouch for a few days, and by the time this is solved you will be a wizzz at swapping filters
Guest tessa c2 Posted May 14, 2008 Share #29 Posted May 14, 2008 Merlin, your popping sounds like carb, or your cdi box yet, the bike idles nice so far? if it does, just fire it up, and while it is idling just pull a plug wire off and let it run for a bit and see if you will eliminate the popping, by doing this youwill find out which cylender is giving you the greaf, and know where to look., mine will do that once in a while and usually sea foam clears it up, another thing to always look at, is when you pull your plugs out, just look and see what color your electrod is on the plug, you are looking for a nice tan color, if it looks sooty or a dark coffee bean color, wet, then it still goes back to a rich carb setting, or a weak spark, where that cylender might not be firing steady, pete
Squeeze Posted May 14, 2008 Share #30 Posted May 14, 2008 Thanks Rocket, I would have LOVED to do all this last winter, however, I just got the bike. NOW, I got it back together, IT DOES RUN. However, I have the right side backfiring on me. Its only ONE cylander. So I get blub, blub, blub, POP! blub blub blub POP! Could this be I got the coil wires reversed? Hooked the back YELLOW coil wire to the front and front to back? Anyone Have any ideas? Other than that it runs good. IF I can get this fixed, It will be a completely different machine than what I bought. Thank you in advance. Merlin:think::think: This can happen if you exchanged ANY of the yellow Coils Wires. Front to rear or left to right. You say it's running good ?? Nah, wait until it works like it should ... How Much Rpm is the Idle set ? You should set it more than 1000 RpM, at least for the Time tinkering. When you come down to balancing the Carbs, you can go just underneath 1 k Rpm, when you find a sweet Spot. GeorgeS Posted May 14, 2008 Share #31 Posted May 14, 2008 Sounds like its time to take it out and put a few Serious Miles on it. Give it a couple hundred miles, of Highway speed running. Then see what you have after that.
