MoonShine Posted January 1, 2019 #1 Posted January 1, 2019 (edited) Not sure if anyone else has done this. I moved the top case rack/ package tray forward and welded to passenger grab rails. The seat was modified by cutting the passenger foam out and re-upholstering. It makes a nice backrest and a little room for stowage behind the seat and under the box. I also plan to bolt a used rack in the original spot for additional room. Edited January 2, 2019 by MoonShine
Patmac6075 Posted January 2, 2019 #2 Posted January 2, 2019 Looks good...excellent idea for those who ride alone.
CaseyJ955 Posted January 2, 2019 #4 Posted January 2, 2019 Very cool, whats better than distinction? Two thumbs up!
Condor Posted January 2, 2019 #5 Posted January 2, 2019 Interesting concept. I rarely ride two up, but personally on long trips of over a week I've found that the passenger seat is a great place to bungee down that duffel bag loaded with clothes, and it also makes a great back rest... :-)
Patch Posted January 6, 2019 #6 Posted January 6, 2019 Good idea! Hopefully you can still move the rest back on the tray? If you are wondering about the welds, from here they appear cold which, may cause them to crack loose, so more heat..
mantree91 Posted February 4, 2019 #7 Posted February 4, 2019 I was kinda thinking of doing the same kinda setup on a old kz1000p Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
mantree91 Posted February 5, 2019 #8 Posted February 5, 2019 I also found this awhile back. I bet something like this could be retrofitted with a couple of solo seats. https://www.baggersmag.com/legends-sliding-tour-pak-rack Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

MoonShine Posted March 18, 2019 Author #11 Posted March 18, 2019 Rear box installed on additional stock rack on original mounting. Box made with 1/4 inch plywood coated in epoxy resin, paint, stain, and spar varnish. My goal is watertight storage with easy access to any bag, box, or case without unloading anything. 1
cowpuc Posted March 18, 2019 #12 Posted March 18, 2019 I like it,, I'm just not sure Tip would be good with riding on top of the trunk,,,, Just yankin your chain Shine = THAT is absolutely AWESOME my friend = DEFINITELY A 1st CLASS JOB IMHO:happy65:!! GORGEOUS SCOOT!!
MoonShine Posted March 24, 2019 Author #13 Posted March 24, 2019 First ride with the new set up. Nice cruising position for me with the top case to lean against.
WildBill1 Posted March 24, 2019 #14 Posted March 24, 2019 I like the way you relocated the touring box for a backrest but the Bootlegger plywood box needs to go. That's just my opinion or butt hole everyone got one .
coolwind57 Posted March 24, 2019 #15 Posted March 24, 2019 Looks like you'd have very little room to get your key in your Yamaha trunk to open it. Do you have a solution or is it not a problem? I like what you'd done. I'm sure it's functional and works for you. You're making it yours, man and that's cool.

Works good and one will accept a padlock if needed.

The box will now and forever be known as the “Bootlegger Locker”! Thanks WB 1

Thanks WB Shine,,, If that gorgeous scoot were mine I would get me some stickers made up that spell out "Gone Bootleggin", stick em on the back of the locker and head west CTFW!!
WildBill1 Posted March 25, 2019 #19 Posted March 25, 2019 I guess after a, Hard Days Ride some apple moonshine aged a day in that box would taste and relax one for a nights sleep. So maybe that box does appeal to me after all.
MoonShine Posted January 17, 2021 Author #20 Posted January 17, 2021 After much riding and camping on the old venture, I decided to put some BMW luggage on for better storage. BMW mounting hardware modified to fit the Venture
MoonShine Posted February 28, 2021 Author #22 Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) Added a brace on each side of the front crash bars. Braces cut from the rear crash bars I took off awhile ago. I have dropped the bike a few times, and the stock bars fold right up. They are very strong now, as I can stand on them with no movement. Hope this helps! Edited April 2, 2021 by MoonShine
