Dano Posted May 5, 2008 #51 Posted May 5, 2008 Ehrich, you need to bring that puppy over to Freebirds on June 7th, plenty of folks to ride with, you got a couple up by South Bend that are coming over the tollway....... Might as well go into that (our) pool head first!!!! Congrats on your first ride, it looked like a lot of fun!! Dan
FutureVentures Posted May 5, 2008 Author #52 Posted May 5, 2008 EXCEPT. I wouldnt hesitate to get on my 8 year old Ultra and ride it 1000 miles...or twice that. [OFF SOAP BOX] Yeah, I totally agree about most Harley's, having ridden an Electra Glide for two days. What I meant to say was, I personally would be less willing to ride, sight unseen, an 8 yr old Harley than I would a Yamaha. Believe me, could I also afford a Harley, I'd have one of those too! Sorry for the HD slam, wasn't intended.
RoadKill Posted May 5, 2008 #53 Posted May 5, 2008 I personally would be less willing to ride, sight unseen, an 8 yr old Harley than I would a Yamaha. Heck, I would NOT ride a new one that far . I ride with several HD riders and have yet to make it through a whole trip without something going wrong on one of their bikes; Tail lights quit, module died, bolts fell out of the mufflers, blown fuses, etc, etc, etc. I think the only thing that has ever happened to me was the Dead Battery this past Saturday. I think it might have been the original on my 2003, so I wasn't too upset. Don't get me wrong, I ABSOLUTELY love the HD look and sound, and they have some great merchandising to go along with it, but for ME I don't think I could let go of the $$$ compared to the quality.
Freebird Posted May 5, 2008 #54 Posted May 5, 2008 I would have no problem buying a Harley unseen and riding it home. In fact, I did just that a few years ago. I found an '86 FXRD on the Internet. I flew from Dallas to Tulsa, OK and bought it and rode it home. Nowhere near 1,000 miles but still a decent haul on an unseen bike. It was perfect and I had a great ride. Only kept the bike for about a year but never had any problem at all with it. I never had to work on it and it was never in the shop for any reason. I only wish I had kept it AND bought the RSV.
BigD Posted May 5, 2008 #55 Posted May 5, 2008 So glad to see you made it home safely. It was fun going on the trip with you, thanks for all the updates. Enjoy the Bike.
SaltyDawg Posted May 5, 2008 #56 Posted May 5, 2008 Always keep this in mind: You NEVER see a salvage yard full of old harleys...can you say the same about these metrics? That's because nobody can afford to get them out of the shop!!!:rotf:
MrRadi8 Posted May 5, 2008 #57 Posted May 5, 2008 I remembered my old one turning like that but I just dealt with it. When I got this one it needed tires and I wanted to try the Avon's on it. Co-worker had put them on his Valk IS and it woke that bike up. Wanted the WWW and it doesn't come in our size. Did some reading on here and Delphi about the smaller front tire. Decided to go with it and love it. Makes those turns and slow speed handling much better. Some like it, some won't do it.
Stratcat Posted May 5, 2008 #58 Posted May 5, 2008 Indeed, you put the FUN in dysfunctional. So, a not-so-quick recap, as promised. Great recap thanks we all enjoyed following along, and glad you home safe and sound. Now for the big question I have been wondering, I understand you were doing these from the road via blackberry email, if so how did you post on here via email? I would be interested to know.
Guest cajunrsver Posted May 7, 2008 #59 Posted May 7, 2008 Erich, I forgot to mention to you that both of the tires have Ride-On in them.
