Hi folks, we all have been upset at the cost of the Excedra rear tire cost at over $300 bucks a pop! Well, I have some good news on a few fronts. First, I just had an Excedra Max 200/60VR16 put on. Yes, it’s slightly taller (less than 1/2” radius) than the 55 but has no problem fitting in the wheel well. Secondly, you’ll notice the “V” rating which is for 149mph. That’s good because the stock is only rated to 134mph despite the fact the bike can go higher. That’s now no longer an issue. It also has a 79 load rating, so it’s rated at 963lbs, about 150lbs higher than stock. A consideration for those who tow. Third, it seems the actual speedometer is now matching the speed listed over ground in the GPS. Lastly the price... can find it online for under $185! That’s right, better performance and cheaper! I was able to get my dealership to match the online price. Total installed was $287.00

Just wanted to get this out there for those who might need a tire soon. I got 15k miles out of mine. Here’s the info:

Great information. That is very likely what I will go with when the time comes.

I’ll let you know how she runs as I put some miles on it. It’s same tread and everything as the OEM, but different in the areas I mentioned. It is nice to know we have some options now.

But it's good to know there are other choices for about one half or less of dealer's price for the tire alone.

WOW Ron, that’s a great price! Wonder why my search for that tire size didn’t show up the Dennis Kirk link? I could’ve got my tire $45 cheaper. Then again my dealership matched the $180 price I found online. Wonder if they’d have matched the $137.00 ?? Oh well, it is what it is. I’ll dig deeper next time.

As you know, you can always search around for a cheaper price on anything you buy if you want to spend the time or are lucky. But, in your case, you gained some reputation with the dealer which is important too. There are times when we don't really want Amazon or Ebay to work on our bikes. Always good that we keep the dealer in the loop some of the time. No? You still only paid half of the cost for the OEM original tire. Look at how many folks will be paying that because they are too lazy or inexperienced to shop around at all or dicker.

Of course, all that above said, while that mt discussed above is a good substitute for the OEM, it's not my choice. I'll likely be going with another Bridgestone car tire that is a run flat, is softer, has more sipes for traction and rain, more contact area (especially on straightaways), and 40% more tread rubber. Of course the idea of a car tire on the rear isn't for everyone and those who don't like the thought should just use a mt if that's what they are comfortable with.

The SVTC will go higher than 134 mph? I ran mine up to about 103 in 6th...it was about done. I'd guess maybe 108 with a long enough straight away. Has anyone posted the top end on these bikes?

I’ve had mine up to 125mph and it still had room to go. There is NO WAY it was struggling at 103 or 108. I had ZERO problems setting cruise control at 90mph and kicking back with one hand on the handlebars because it was that stable. The engine was not struggling AT ALL and was just “purring” like it could run there all day. As a matter of fact, I ran that speed for 2hrs on a short trip I took and was still getting over 38 mpg.

Heck, at 90mph in 6th it was only turning about 3200 rpm. There was PLENTY to go! Just rolled on the throttle and she shoots right over 100 with NO issue.

As far as “top end”, I haven’t had the courage to push it to that for two reasons: one is I don’t like going that fast, and two is I truly get worried about being thrown in jail and having my bike confiscated for reckless driving.
