StarRider07 Posted May 1, 2008 #1 Posted May 1, 2008 Where can I start looking for an after market ignition for a 99 Venture? Yamaha wants over $280 for it. Thanks

StarRider07 Posted May 1, 2008 Author #4 Posted May 1, 2008 Mmmm, thanks guys. One of us is confused. When I said ignition, I meant where you put the key and turn. Isn't that the ignition. Anyway, sorry if I was wrong. Aftermarket unit the key goes in. Thanks
gibvel Posted May 1, 2008 #5 Posted May 1, 2008 I had a feeling that's what you meant. I read and re-read your post and decided that it didn't say anything about it being the ignition switch. Okay. I think, with the exception of ebay, you're stuck paying Yamaha for that one. May find one on ebay though. BTW you can get them cheaper on-line. Found one for $117 here: http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/Yamaha.aspx Just put the appropriate info in the first page. When the fiche comes up go to electrical 1. Should be part #6 SKU: 4XY-82501-00-00 MAIN SWITCH STEERING LOCK Even cheaper here: http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/fiche_section_detail.asp Just so you know, the original bolts that were used are the kind that the head snaps off when they are tightened. If you plan on doing the work yourself the bolt will have to have a slot cut into what's left of the head so you can use a screwdriver on it. You'll either have to reuse those bolts, if you can, buy some new bolts # 7 on the list, or find the appropriate replacement bolts at a hardware store.

BOO Posted May 2, 2008 #11 Posted May 2, 2008 I think somewhere around here there is an article showing how to repair/rebuild the ignition switch. It might be over at Venturers.org site. But I've seen it somewhere. On the other hand, $120 sounds like a fairly good price for a new one. Jerry
