The strongest winds 98mph with gusts to 115mph passed my home about 6:00 am this morning taking out the power. Then the eye passed over giving me the opportunity to go outside and check for damage. The damage was minimal. It sucked open my utility shed doors and one gate. A small pine is leaning against a bigger tree and it will have to come down. It was scary at its peak with the house shaking. But in the 25 years I’ve owned this house many hurricane eyes have passed over I have a generator to keep the refrigerator cold and supply a few lights and phone charging. Not so bad I suppose.

Have not heard from a few of our Yankee brethren up in NC, hope all is ok.

Hey Joe, I will be fine since I am at high ground and have whole house generating capacity. TDunc sits pretty high also so he should fair well. Plus the winds are not forecasted to be very high here. Tonight around 32 mph and lowering to 12 mph Sunday night.

We are good, but alot around me have lost power. The wind had passed by lunch and now just rain.

I am surprised that Greenville got a lot of wind to knock out power. Maybe 30 mph here now. Hope you do well.

Weird. Light rain then heavy then light then heavy.

Apparently rain bands. Will will go from nothing to strong gusts and back to nothing. The woworst of it will hit over here after midnight. Yet the strong gusts have already caused a few problems with downed trees and power lines.

I made it out to the store earlier before it got nasty. We got the essentials so we’re good... Vodka, Rum & Fireball plus some Crown Royal Reserve. :250:

My son's home is in Havelock, NC and so far he has 1 tree down and some branches down, some of his neighbors weren't so lucky. So far no flooding in his neighborhood.

His father in law is in New Bern about 5 miles west of the downtown area. He has a tree through the roof of the garage and water lapping at the sides of his home but so far no water in the house.

My son and family are here in Detroit riding out the storm . They brought the M.I.L. and niece with them.

We're praying the house sustains no damage or flooding. 2 more days of rain predicted [emoji852]

Well, this morning at about 10.00am, the power came on after being off for 29 hours. God Bless those Line Crews who get out in this weather and repair the fallen lines. We are really dependent on electrical power for almost everything.

I'm texting with a friend around Whiteville, NC who lost power and they are telling him two weeks. You are lucky to get power back that quick.

(Are you in Wilmington or outlying?)

We (Lugoff, SC 25 miles NE of Columbia by I-20) still only have had sprinkling rain and winds about 30 gusting. They say she's still coming. Will see......

My nephew was very lucky, he says it's wet in Raleigh today (Sat 15th) but things are mostly OK. Shops are even open.

I have to say I'm extremely impressed by the weather service on abc 11. Superb detail in their information.

Let's remember & thank the reporters & crews that were out in the storm to bring updates. Especially let's give thanks to the front line responders for all their diligence & hard work helping people & the Linesmen who are doing their best to restore power under extremely difficult circumstances.

We hope & pray that those affected will be able to get their lives back on track very soon.

Stay safe everyone!

I'm technically just outside the city limits, but I'm no more than about 7 miles from downtown Wilmington. The city has priority due to the number of residents and the need to get the stop lights working again I suppose. Yeah, if you live in the country, it could be a couple of weeks before power is restored based on past history.

Its all about the "grid" and how and who is on it. We are about 1/2 mile or so from a local hospital. If you kind of counted city blocks would be like over 2 and down 5. After Charlie I think it was power was down. I think 2-2.5 days and we had power back. Folks closer say 2 blocks over towards hospital were out a week or more. No sense how grid is set up. They evidently have changed it because after Irma hospital and other streets over a couple had power more than a week before us. Crazy how they set that stuff up. Glad you got your power back. WE had some places get power back and a day or so later loose it for a day, then came back.

In my book those guys are a bit off messing with that much electricity in first place. Then add in adverse conditions......

Re-started my walk around the subdivision today and I saw lots of blown down trees and fences. For a Cat 1 storm, this one did lots of damage. And we were the lucky ones with minimal flooding. I think Wilmington is still isolated with flooded/closed roads. I don't know how many times over the years, I've been told that pine trees have a big tap root that goes straight down. BS I looked at the blown down pine trees and they don't have a tap root.

Tap roots or not. You get soaking rains for a day, day and half and then some high winds and I think most trees are going over. New tonight said Wilmington is pretty much shut off and is an island. LOL Mentioned Hwy 17 so I had to look up and sure enough its the same one that runs all the way down thru my neck of the woods.

I read today that some news crews were able to get out of Wilmington by driving north to Jacksonville and then to Goldsboro and Raleigh in order to drive back to Atlanta. That's a long way out of the way. Maybe the grocery stores and gas stations will be able to re-stock soon.

I just drove to Home Depot about 8 miles away and there are lots of stop lights that are still not working. The grocery stores have not been able to re-stock yet. Florence was a nasty girl.
