AL GUY Posted April 30, 2008 #1 Posted April 30, 2008 Here's a pic of a stock RSTD passenger backrest converted to a removable driver backrest. The mounting brackets left over can then be used as a removable trunk mount.
eagleeye Posted April 30, 2008 #2 Posted April 30, 2008 Al, Now, that is one inovative idea. I'll have to look into that. I assume that I'll have to chop up my clip on backrest, huh? Thanks, Steve
AL GUY Posted April 30, 2008 Author #3 Posted April 30, 2008 You have to carefully grind out the welds that fasten the backrest post to the uprights. You can use the leftover brackets to make a very nice looking and sturdy trunk mount. AL
BMW Posted April 30, 2008 #5 Posted April 30, 2008 Nice work, but doesn't look like much room left for a passenger.
AL GUY Posted April 30, 2008 Author #6 Posted April 30, 2008 Takes about 5 seconds and no tools to remove it if you carry a passenger. Use the passenger as a temporary backrest. AL
calperin Posted April 30, 2008 #7 Posted April 30, 2008 Hey it looks nice. What about to install a second backrest. I mean, I have one for the passenger, but I don't want to take it off. Just add another one for me. What it takes to hold it. I cannot see very well the mounting system you made. Any chance to post 1 or 2 pictures without the seat? Thanks Carlos
AL GUY Posted April 30, 2008 Author #8 Posted April 30, 2008 I'll post some closeups tonight. It clips on over the bolt that holds the saddlebag guard. AL
calperin Posted April 30, 2008 #9 Posted April 30, 2008 Ah, Now I got it. I have a 1997 with different kind of saddlebags. However still I have the saddlebags bars. I need to check when I back home. Thanks
