Here's a pic of a stock RSTD passenger backrest converted to a removable driver backrest. The mounting brackets left over can then be used as a removable trunk mount.

Now, that is one inovative idea. I'll have to look into that.

I assume that I'll have to chop up my clip on backrest, huh?

You have to carefully grind out the welds that fasten the backrest post to the uprights. You can use the leftover brackets to make a very nice looking and sturdy trunk mount.

Takes about 5 seconds and no tools to remove it if you carry a passenger. Use the passenger as a temporary backrest.

Hey it looks nice. What about to install a second backrest. I mean, I have one for the passenger, but I don't want to take it off. Just add another one for me.

 

What it takes to hold it. I cannot see very well the mounting system you made.

 

Any chance to post 1 or 2 pictures without the seat?

Now I got it. I have a 1997 with different kind of saddlebags. However still I have the saddlebags bars. I need to check when I back home.
