No Start

Today I picked up my new to me, 2009 RSV. I bought it in Ms and rode it home one hundred or so miles home to Pensacola. Parked it in the driveway while I made room in the garage. Wont start. Good bright hdlt and no response from the starter. No dimming of light, no clicking of relay or starter. No problem until I reached home. (Thank you) In neutral, engine shutoff sw on kickstand up, or down. Any ideas? I will go out in the AM and start checking things as it is dark now.

Check the main fuss next to the starter solenoid behind the left cover under the seat. If that's ok, remove the gas tank and check the 2 wire connector going to the ignition switch. We have seen more than a couple of theses connectors burn out. If that's not it then it could be the ignition switch. This is a big problem with the 2nd gen. One of our members makes a bypass for the ignition switch, you can find it in the classified section.

If the engine doesn't turn over at all I would check the kill switch. You may have bumped it to kill position. Happens to me sometimes

Dumb, dumb, dumb. When I parked the bike in my driveway, my neighbor threw his leg over. As he was messing with the controls, he must have flicked the engine shutoff sw. I didn't notice it until this morning.

 

Off to a great start. This is my first bike since 1983. It is also the biggest, heaviest with the largest engine. My last bike was a 1976 Goldwing, Vetter's fairing and Bates saddle bags. It is also my first bike with floor boards. I'm still adjusting to riding with my feet out front. Practice and time should get me going.

Not dumb. Normal. We've all done the same thing...sometimes when we are zooming down the road.

 

The rear brake is sensitive so practice emergency braking in a parking lot.

Other than that, I did over 4K in June to Michigan and back to Arizona in 17 days....like riding a Caddy!

I have done that more than once. Clipped it with a glove or something and just enough to disconnect. I have even done it a couple times on the Victory. If you find you would like a by pass relay let me know, as I make them.
