leo3wheel Posted August 7, 2018 #1 Posted August 7, 2018 Would like to provide a follow-up on the condition of Mike (BrakePad), who was seriously injured at the beginning of our trip last year. Mike was involved in a serious accident near Kanab, Utah. Both of his arms were broken at the elbows. Surgeons at St. George, Utah repaired his arms as best they could, and we assisted getting Mike on a flight home to Florida. Mike was a building contractor with his own business, so this injury was a real blow to his livelihood. He completed his physical therapy, but the strength and flexibility would not return to his arms. Mike was too young to retire and was faced with a career change. He was determined not to let his injuries put limitations on him and still had dreams of touring the country. He talked of becoming a trucker. He enrolled at Indian River State College and completed their trucker program. It involved a lot of course work and shared driving, but he is now a certified truck driver. Mike now has thousands of miles and multiple deliveries under his belt, and just returned home to Florida after driving solo around the country. Hats off to Mike! He had a dream and made it happen!
Barrycuda Posted August 7, 2018 #4 Posted August 7, 2018 Glad he is well. Being a truck driver isn’t as glamorous as the commercial tell you. I drove for 2 years and can be exhausting and take a toll on your body from all the prolonged sitting. Maybe more so with him being 6’4. Best of luck Mike
saddlebum Posted August 7, 2018 #5 Posted August 7, 2018 Glad to hear your doing ok Brake Pad and have saw fit to make a career change rather than sit on your duff feeling sorry for yourself like so many do. PS word of advice from a longtime truck Mech. Stick to driving company trucks rather than getting your own. today's trucks are to trouble prone and costly to repair. Should you however decide to get your get own by new and don't cheap out on warranty get the best package available and make sure you understand exactly what it covers. Ive seen too many customers try to get by without and it costs them big. It may be expensive but I have seen it pay for itself many times over. to you Mike
Sylvester Posted August 7, 2018 #6 Posted August 7, 2018 Good for you brakepad, sorry that life threw you a curve ball but you hit it out of the park. You are driving for a good company and they have a good reputation. I pray for your continued health and success.
