Classifieds Section Broke

Our classifieds was actually a different software that i had integrated with our forum software. Since the upgrade to a secure site, it has been discovered that the Classifieds no longer work properly. The company that I bought the software from is no longer in business so getting any help in updating the code to worth with our new secure website isn't going to happen. I messed with it for a little while but it is apparently over my head to find and modify what it would take to make it work again.

 

So, I went searching for new classified software and there just isn't anything that I am really crazy about. What little is out there is way overpriced for what it is. The best one I've found is one that I tried before and found it to be lacking a lot of features.

 

So at least for now, I have created a new section if the Forums called "Buy, Sell, Trade". That will have to do unless I come up with something better. As with the other Classifieds, anybody can view your ads but only supporting members can post in the classifieds.

 

The positive is that they are right here on the same page as everything else. The bad thing is that you will receive no notification that your ads are about to expire so you will have to keep up with that. I will likely purge them, except for our member vendors, about every 90 days. I will always try to let you know before I do so and give you a chance to copy and paste to a new ad or respond to your own ad and I'll purge it on the basis of the last post to an ad rather than the creation date.

 

One thing different about the classifieds forum is that a member can delete their own threads at any time. That will allow you to delete your ad if your item sells.

Any way to get a copy of what we had posted so we can easily duplicate the add in the new section?

The classifieds are still there, just none of the features work anymore. So you can go to your old add and copy/paste to create your new add. You will have to reload any pics.

So they are, I just looked at the new section, figuring the old one was gone, so much for assuming!

That's why I haven't removed them. I will give it a few days to give people time to copy and create their new ads. Heck, I may even figure it out in the meantime but I doubt it.

When you created a classified, it also created a thread with the description from the add. Some of those have conversations on them. Is it possible to get that created thread moved to the new forum and then we just have to add the pics and some details but would retain the conversation?

It is possible but most of those threads have been purged over time. The best way would be for each person to just copy and repost their ads rather than me having to try and find them all.

Besides, those threads are automatically posted by VR Robot. If I move them, there will be no link to the original posters contact info.

I was not able to post the adds using Windows 10 with IE 11, I had to use GOOGLE to be able to enter text in the add, but got it done.

I don't understand that. It is just another forum area just like this one. Nothing different about it.

Now this is interesting, the issue is specific to my desktop computer, I just checked here on my laptop it works fine with IE 11, but my desktop does not allow me to enter text in the message area and the area above the message field does not have the three rows of edit icons. Like the page does not load completely.

 

There is something not set up correctly on that desktop because I also noted the random images that appear on the first page I always open run in a vertical line and not a horizontal line, that started after the switch to https, so must be something goofy with my computer.

In that case, I would start by clearing the browser cache and then trying it again.

Yeah as soon as the wife is done with the computer, I am going to reboot the thing and start from there, browser cache is supposed to clear every time I exit IE, but who knows with Windows.
