uhfradarwill Posted July 30, 2018 #1 Posted July 30, 2018 I thought I had a Lean condition because after a 3000 RPM blip, my RPM' would decrease rapidly to 2,000 RPMs then take around 10-15 seconds to reach the set idle of around 1K RPMs. Well while looking for the mixture screws I noticed a rubber hose coming down from, I think, the air box or somewhere near it that went to a metal T then to the left and right side carbs. Guess what, the hose coming down wasn't even connected to the T. I connected it and the bike seems to drop to idle normally now. Woot. Will
Patch Posted July 31, 2018 #2 Posted July 31, 2018 Wondering if you can post a pic of the carburetor vacuum line you are mentioning. There is only one line that I know of for the 1300 Venture, and one line down from the base of the air box to the crankcase. It sounds like there might be an old attempt at vacuum sharing left behind? What you describe is called "rpm hanging" and is most often due to a vacuum leak.

I'm not sure what it is but it definitely prevented the blips from hanging before returning to idle no question. Will

Will It is pretty difficult to see this "T" in the pics but I did trace two of the connections. The blue arrow points to the hose that was not connected. It goes straight up to some unknown place. The bottom of the T goes down about an inch and can be seen easily just behind the carb sync plug. On the other side of the T there is a much smaller hose that goes towards the left of the bike and up to the air box I think. Also I notice that someone has elected not to install the carb drain hoses. I'll add them eventually. The owner had the carbs serviced three years ago after leaving gas in the system ridden for two years. I hope the service guy did a better job internally to the carbs than he did re-attaching hoses. Cheers and thanks for any identification. Will
Patch Posted August 1, 2018 #5 Posted August 1, 2018 WOW!!! Original carb setup, don't see that often. What is the mileage? I can't think what the picture is showing, I'll go through my pics and manual. Wondering if it's grey matter or a California thingy?

Don't waste your time on me Steven, I'm sure I'm too young and have holes in my memory that would prevent me from understanding your explanation. Will

WillHey Will, don't take it personally. You are not the only one who has difficulty understanding Steven's posts. I think he has some valuable experience but has difficulty communicating it clearly.

luvmy40 Posted August 3, 2018 #9 Posted August 3, 2018 (edited) I'm still curious as to what these vac lines are for and if they are original. My '83 standard only had one vac line from the boost sensor to the No.2 carb body and the four larger lines from the heads to the YICS chamber, now removed and capped. No Tees in any of them. The only Tee is the one in the breather hose that connects to the air box. Is this a Royale with cruise control? If so, are the CCs vacuum operated? Edited August 3, 2018 by luvmy40 TYPO
