Out of the blue today my left bag won't unlock. The key only turns 1/8 past "Set" and it refuses to rotate any further.

The key woks on all other accessory locks and has never been an issue before. I have three keys and they all wok everywhere but the left bag lock.

Any ideas on how to get this open?

There are a couple bungee cords but nothing else inside. The lock cylinder doesn't feel tight or jammed. It turns freely from lock to set and then just stops short of unlocking.

I'm just wondering if you squeeze the halves together near the lock it might relieve it enough to complete the turn?? There might be some crud in the channel??

OK I want to say up front that I have zero experience with locks also - that I am completely without knowledge in this matter!

However;) fill the cylinder with penetrating oil take a jig sander or whatever you may have that vibrates NONE rotating remove any abrasive paper and place and hold the vibrating pad to the lock mechanism. Then try the key again ensuring there is no lifting pressure on the lock.. Repeat if necessary, and don't mention my name

Just to let others know, you can use the above technique to clean lock cylinders. It causes the tumblers and springs to oscillate and the lube then carries the dirt away.

I got in a heck of fix with my second gen on a trip. We were up in Canada and I was crossing the boarder. After getting passage which was um its own project, I tossed all my paperwork into my right saddle bag. When we got to the hotel I could not get the bag to open. On the second gen you push the button down and it is supposed to push a plunger down and flip a latch. Somehow it was not releasing. If I remember right a piece of plastic from something got between the latch and the bar it goes around. I thought I was going to have to drill it out to get access to my pass port to get back into the states.
