Got another gun in a barter

Got a call this morning from a gentleman who said that he really needed a stairlift but couldn't afford one. Asked if I had any used stairlifts and if I had any interest in firearms.

 

Just so happened that I did have one used unit that would work for him and we struck a tentative deal. I will install his stairlift on Tuesday and give him an already agreed upon credit for his gun, pending it being in "like new" condition as he says.

 

Haven't seen it yet but it's a Kimber Crimson Ultra Carry II in .45 caliber. 3" barrel. Here is what it should look like.

The barter is still alive and well.

I once got a NIB Remington 700 SS in 7mm Rem Mag as down payment on a boat that I paid $200 for. It was only a few hours out of the gun store when his wife saw it and it had to go NOW. The gun shop would only give him half of what he paid 2 hours earlier.

You guys have it so good down there with that sort of thing.

Way to many hoops to jump through up here for gun owners. Having said that I did have a great day out on Sunday with a few friends despite the weather not co-operating.

And before anyone says anything, yes, they were all proved safe & unloaded at that point!

I think they changed the law in Oregon so you would have to do a background check etc even for a private barter.

I think it's federal law that if you sell firearm to a felon, you just committed a felony. If you don't know who you are selling or trading or giving it to, it's best to go through a dealer who can make the call to check the guy's record.

I don't know the laws there. Having bought and sold firearms privately in Georgia there is zero paperwork. However, to protect myself, I take a photo copy of the ID and complete a bill of sale. On the bill of sale it asks if the buyer is a felon. If they reply no, I'm in the clear.

That is NIIIIIICE ! I carry a Taurus .40 24/7 G2 Compact. Nothing fancy, pretty accurate, never had a jam, but it suits my needs. But that one.......my friend that is a beauty.

Speakin of shootin, I just grabbed 500 rounds of 200 grain remanned flat nose ammo for my '11 off Ammoseek for .21 a round = good stuff! Those ol trench guns are fun to shooters

Even up here in Canuckistan, guns & ammo are good currency. In fact, I sold off enough of both to pay the bill for my new RSV.

 

I had a number of Kimber 1911's, and was well pleased with them. Don't know what all the haters are on about. I prefer them in the standard 5" configuration myself. Owned a couple of 4" Commander style, but never a shorty like that, though I have shot them.

Well, I completed the trade today. Installed a used stairlift and we finalized the deal on the Kimber. He also had a brand new Savage .223 rifle with a nice Nikon scope that he offered to trade along with the Kimber. It had been shot just enough to sight in the scope and looked brand new. Walnut stock, looked to be a parkerized black barrel, very nice gun. I just really didn't need it so declined on that one. I already have a Ruger Mini 14 in .223.

 

Anyway, he bought the Kimber brand new. It is an Ultra Crimson Carry II. It has had about 1/2 box of ammo shot through it. He bought it, 5 boxes of ammo, and a nice Bianchi leather inside wasteband holster. It was his only .45 so he gave me the 4 1/2 boxes of ammo that he had left plus the holster and the original plastic case. He also included the extra magazine that he had bought. Very nice gun. First one I've owned with the laser sights and I'm sure I will try it out this weekend.

Have you tried the inside waistband holster? Looking at my pants, it is hard to imagine a gun jammed in there. Especially a somewhat larger one. I have little 380's that easily fit into a pants pocket - of course, not the most effective type of gun, but they are small. Just wondering about walking around with something inside your waistband/belt.

No, I have never used one but will see how it feels. Don't know that I will like it but wasn't going to turn it down.

Most people that carry inside the waistband buy larger pants so the handgun will fit better. I prefer outside the waist.

I carry my Colt Defender in a leather Blackhawk OWB belt slider holster. It has snaps on each loop so you just slip the ears behind the belt and snap. Carries it high enough and close enough that just a tee shirt is enough to conceal. My wife doesn't even know when I'm carrying.
