So forgive me in advance if this has already been covered...I looked but didn't see it.

I have an iPhone 8 with the latest iOS, and firmware version 12.0.6 loaded on the bike. I've disabled iMessages completely, and have verified that I am now receiving all texts as SMS. I have unpaired my phone, restarted both phone and bike, and repaired them both. I have also verified the Bluetooth setting in my iPhone to ensure that "Display Notification" was checked.

All that said, I have still been unable to have any text messages displayed across the screen. This is frustrating because the Yamaha infotainment video demonstrating the SMS feature uses an iPhone.

Has ANYONE been able to make an iPhone work???

Has anyone made ANY phone work, and if so, what was it.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd love to be able to use one of the more attractive features of the infotainment system.

I fiddled with it briefly but didn’t get anything to work. Then again, I haven’t really read up in HOW to do it either. I’d be curious to know what you find out.

Might be a good use for the dedicated Star Venture/Eluder phone support number:

Did you know that Yamaha has a dedicated Customer Service number staffed to answer questions and concerns related to Star Venture and Star Eluder? This number is (800) 656-7695, with Yamaha specialists available Monday through Friday, from 5:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

I contemplated that... And still may, but the one and only time I've called, I was berated for not first contacting my dealership for support. My aversion to calling the dealership right away is that I know they still don't know much about this bike.

On my comm menu, the SMS and the Bike message choices are greyed out. I have an IPhone SE (fits in the compartment!) and can’t get texts either. My main concern though is the bike status texts. I have a call into support, they said they will get back in a couple days. I also inquired for an update on the backup camera

This is unfortunate. The iPhone is a great phone.

I have an android phone, and the feature works fine. :confused24:

I hope there's a fix or work-around for the iPhone.

Well...it is good to know that at least Android does function as it should with the bike. I would still have an android if hearing aid manufacturers could make a "Made for Android" hearing aid. It's frustrating because in the Yamaha videos I watched prior to purchasing the bike, they demo's the sync up using an iPhone. SMH...

I had the same issue with my Iphone and those same features on my Nissan Murano. Did a lot of research and finally learned that Iphone is very finicky with their bluetooth and they simply don't work with a lot of such systems. I hope that's not the case with the Star Venture but it wouldn't surprise me. From all I've been able to find out, it's a problem with the Iphone and not the Murano and probably not the bike. I have an assortment of Iphones including a 5, 6, 7, and 10. None of them work with the text features in the Murano.

The iPhone Bluetooth works fine for everything else, just not the texts. And the bike info texts not working is not phone related. Pretty sure this is a bike software problem, we’ll see what Yamaha comes back with. I could see where it might be a safety issue and there would be an alert but couldn’t read the message unless pulled over on accessory but that isn’t the case.

Check that your iphone isn't going into "Do Not Disturb" mode... that would prevent it from displaying SMS messages. It will go into this mode whenever connected to Bluetooth if you have the feature enabled. I get the bike text messages on the infotainment system itself, not an actual text to my phone... but there aren't many of them.

Back to the bluetooth issue... iPhones have a long and storied history of issues connecting to cars via bluetooth, no one seems sure why. Here is a link to a site that details some of these issues and offers some troubleshooting tips to try to get it to work.

Good luck! I have an android phone and the SMS feature works on my Venture.

On the Comm menu, can you choose Bike info texts? Are you running 12.0.6?

Like others that have replied, I have an Android and the SMS messages work. The funny thing is, I can’t get music to play over BT or when plugged in via USB. Seems like we should swap phones.

I have an iPhone 8 plus and SMS does not work, however I can play bluetooth music from my phone just fine.

Apple does screwy things just because they are Apple. In my wife's 2016 Honda Civic our Android Sony phones had all kinds of issues with the radio system but our iPhone 8 plus phones work without a hitch, go figure.

Success! I have an IPhone SE running 11.3. I have my do not disturb set to manual, but what I didn’t see was once the phone was paired, I had to reclick on that Bluetooth connection and another show notification check box appeared. The Comm menu would not let me choose SMS until I had an incoming text but then everything worked as advertised. The bike info choice in the Comm menu is inaccessible but I’m going to try to trigger a bike message to make sure that works the same. Thanks for everyone’s help.

Can you play music from the headphone jack on your phone to the bikes aux choice?

Yes, you can plug any external audio for playback into the aux jack, but the infotainment cannot display or search it. You’ll have to control playback from the device itself.

There is NO backup camera currently installed in the SVTC. The infotainment has the “capability” and Yamaha engineers are still developing the camera for marketing. That why they would NOT give me info on WHERE the camera plug in was located or what type of connection it uses. From what I can see in the service manual, the connection is located underneath the front of the gas tank at what’s called the “head unit”. That didn’t make sense because you’d figure it would be located toward the rear where the camera will be mounted. Unfortunately it’s not.

I know, but my bike was manufactured in August last year, I think the engineers could have an answer by now. Prodding does not hurt. I have found the connector for the camera on the schematics and wiring diagrams but I don’t know if software will be needed to be modified. I did let them know in my survey that a stated feature should be installed or at the very least available. When you had your gas tank replaced did they show you the connector or was it still inaccessible?

They took HD pics of the area, but I can’t as yet specifically determine anything. Probably because it has a black rubber protective boot over it which makes it indiscernable. That’s totally stinks!

Im probably gonna have to break down and remove the tank myself and physically examine the connection. My hunch is that it’s probably gonna be a standard RCA connection. A USB would not handle the vibration as well. Not to mention I think almost all vehicle camera connections are also RCA video.

At work on a rainy day so the bike is at home in the garage. That said, I haven't tried the AUX plug but I'll take Chief's word for it. Honestly, since XM had that special going, 6 months for $30, I've been playing that on the bike.

Apologies to OP, didn't mean to take this thread on a tangent.

I put all my mp3’s On a 32G stick & plugged it into USB1 on the right front. Got over 7 days continuous music available and its ALL searchable by artist, title, album or genre! Can’t beat that with a stick!

So are you getting iMessages (appearing in blue), or just SMS text messages (appearing in green)? Glad it's working for you...I feel like it's something simple and seemingly insignificant that we're missing here.
