johnthorne97 Posted May 21, 2018 #1 Posted May 21, 2018 Bike starts and runs great. Problem is after 20 min of riding the bike will just stop running. I've spent 5 min on the side of the road trying to start it and all that happens is the starter turns over. No bag no rumble. Nothing but starter. Up until today I've been able to get it going after it sits for about 20 min. Spark plugs are new. And system is charging. Not sure where to go next. Sent from my SM-G920W8 using Tapatalk
cecdoo Posted May 22, 2018 #2 Posted May 22, 2018 First I would make sure the tank vent is clear and not causing the tank to vapor lock, when it stalls and you safely pull to the side of the road remove gas cap and listen for the sound of air being sucked into the tank. Second I would check to see if I hear the fuel pump clicking to fill up the carbs while the engine is cranking, it sounds like the fuel pump bit is on its way out. That is a common problem with some RSVs, You can just replace the points or replace the whole pump. Good luck, Craig
johnthorne97 Posted May 22, 2018 Author #3 Posted May 22, 2018 I'll defiantly look at that when it happens again. Wasn't my first thought as I could smell the gas while cranking it over. But always worth a look. Thanks John. Sent from my SM-G920W8 using Tapatalk
RedRider Posted May 22, 2018 #4 Posted May 22, 2018 Cecdoo nailed it. Classic sign of fuel pump issue. There are several threads on here that discuss it. Not a difficult or expensive repair. RR
bongobobny Posted May 22, 2018 #5 Posted May 22, 2018 +1 for clogged air vent tube on the gas tank...
Rafterd Posted May 28, 2018 #7 Posted May 28, 2018 Clogged fuel tank breather. Remove the gas cap. Even if the fuel pump quit it will still gravity feed.
