YamahaParExcellence Posted May 13, 2018 #1 Posted May 13, 2018 Does anybody know..(no information in the SVTC Manual or Infotainment Manual, for what FORMATS the SVTC's USB 2.0 can read. Also, what is the max GB stick that the system will recognize? So, for Format types, you can have: exFAT32 NFTS FAT32 So, which formats of the above, does the SVTC USB system 2.0 use, and can recognize? I think I tried a 64GB USB 2.0/3.0 formatted by exFAT32 (you can only use exFAT32 or NFTS) for 64 GB's....and it did not read the stick. I don't know if it was the ex32FAT formatting, or the size of the stick at 64 GB's.

In order for systems to be compatible they normally use FAT32 as that is the most compatible standard for file system. I have my 16 GB iPod 4 hooked up to my fairing USB port on my SVTC and it works without a problem.
American Posted May 13, 2018 #3 Posted May 13, 2018 I found this for Yamaha:https://fr.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/0/322610/tested_usb_flash_memory_list_for_m7cl_ls9_cl_ql_series_en.pdf

Right...I knew that FAT32 would be 'universal' but wanted to know what other format configurations, might the SVTC also recognize...and also...how large a stick in GB's can the system use? 32GB max? 64GB max? 128GB max? That would be good to know... Until someone truly does have that information, I suspect that the SVTC USB 2.0 can see a max of 32GB's storage on the stick. Just a guess.

They are going to be more concerned with overall compatibility then they are trying to make every file system work, be it a iMac or a Windows computer both are capable of formatting and reading/writing FAT32. According to the link above 16 GB may be the limit, that is Yamaha music but they are the ones who worked with Yamaha on the entertainment system for the SVTC. They also list compatible thumb drives.

It could just be...and that would explain maybe some of us having trouble getting Toolbox to 'find' the software footprint. I wonder if the Toolbox software actually looks for a 16 GB device first before trying to find the folders, In using a 32 GB USB drive, I could never get it to not post: No Device Detected Bought a 16 GB USB stick just in case this is what is happening and will try a footprint on this one...and see if Toolbox picks up the drive....

I was using a FAT32 formatted 32 GB as well...but I wonder if Yamaha's Toolbox software actually LOOKS for a 16 GB capacity stick. If it sees any other GB's...it reports No Device Detected. Dunno!
XV1100SE Posted May 14, 2018 #9 Posted May 14, 2018 Thinking that for music it should accept large formats for playing music (possibly 128GB) but for firmware updates it might be limited to 8GB as a "boot" or update drive. I'm just guessing but I can't see them limiting "music" sticks to small sizes. But for the firmware updates (from what has been posted previously) it seems the "firmware" sticks provided by Yamaha seems to be common at 8GB. I don't have a SVCT so just guessing based on what has been posted and working in computers for a few decades.
XV1100SE Posted May 14, 2018 #10 Posted May 14, 2018 I see there are issues with 12.0.6. Downloads suspended. Due to technical complications found in software version 12.0.6 for Yamaha's infotainment system on Star Venture TC and Star Eluder motorcycles, we have temporarily disabled the ability to download software updates.

Due to technical complications found in software version 12.0.6 for Yamaha's infotainment system on Star Venture TC and Star Eluder motorcycles, we have temporarily disabled the ability to download software updates. Yes, that is what I was trying to warn others about. Even when this questionable (and not posted as a May release) 12.0.6 was available for download, the Canadian Yamaha Site STILL had the "Due to technical problems, with 12.0.6, we have temporarily disabled user download updates". This message was never taken down during this whole time. I think this is still the 12.0.6 that was borking some Logic Heads and locking up the whole system. For those that this occurred to...Yamaha had to install a completely new Logic Head....and that's whey they pulled that v12.0.6 down quickly. I personally think this is the same FEB v12.0.6 that will bork your bike, under certain user entry commands. Be careful, folks... It would only make sense that Yamaha would CLEARLY differentiate the trouble causing FEB release, to any re-written and/or modified RE release with the updated Month stamp BEFORE it gets put out into the wild....
