Just checked my Star Venture and I already have R12.0.6 installed so I don't know if it was already on the bike when I bought it or if the dealer updated it during the 600 mile service. This update was released back in February 2018 so it has been out for a while. My bikes build date is November 2017 so somewhere along the line someone updated the software on it. You can find your build date on the Botton right side frame rail on a sticker with the bikes information on it. This sticker is like what is in the drivers door jam of your car.

I’m running R12.0.05 that was installed in January and I haven’t had any issues. R12.0.6 which was initially released in February (as the update says) was pulled back because of issues. If this is supposed to be the “repaired version” WHY are they still showing a release date of February?? I understand keeping the same software ID number but the release date identifies the bad from the good version, so shouldn’t it be MAY 2018?
DougS Posted May 12, 2018 #4 Posted May 12, 2018 I just did the update and everything went just fine. Took about 20 minutes. I was at R11.something and it now shows R12.0.6. I looked for a change log to see what was updated over the different versions but couldn’t find anything like that. This latest update mentioned something about IOS compatibility but no details. It would be nice to know what exactly they addressed!

The email that we got from Yamaha mentions: Did you know that Yamaha has a dedicated Customer Service number staffed to answer questions and concerns related to Star Venture and Star Eluder? This number is (800) 656-7695, with Yamaha specialists available Monday through Friday, from 5:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. These questions might be a good use of this dedicated customer service initiative...
American Posted May 13, 2018 #6 Posted May 13, 2018 It is supposed to fix the navigation from freezing up as one of the fixes. I saw a Yamaha video on it and they said that 12.0.6 would fix that issue.

American Posted May 13, 2018 #8 Posted May 13, 2018 Ooo, where did you see this video? I just ran across it but I could not tell you how to find it. It was somewhere on Yamaha's site but for the life of me I don't remember how I stumbled across it.

American Posted May 13, 2018 #10 Posted May 13, 2018 What if I haven’t had any NAV system issues while running R12.0.05? This was a specific issue when you entered information the system could freeze, they showed you how to fix the freeze when it happened and said a fix would be in the next update which would be R12.0.6.
YamahaParExcellence Posted May 13, 2018 #11 Posted May 13, 2018 I would not install this version yet...still pegged as Chief said, at the Feb version. That was the one that was borking the Logic Head... They still do NOT have this as an update on the Yamaha Canada SVTC software site. It still says that files are temporarily not available. You'd think that they would have shown the 'new modified' 12.0.6 as May 12/th..and not still Feb. I"m holding off, until I see what is posted to the Yamaha Canada site. Someone could have goofed at Yamaha USA and posted the one that was pulled.... Be careful out there...
Zelthian Posted May 13, 2018 Author #12 Posted May 13, 2018 I installed it. Seems to be working fine for me. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
YamahaParExcellence Posted May 13, 2018 #13 Posted May 13, 2018 I installed it. Seems to be working fine for me. Honestly, I would not run with it...for you don't know exactly what menu or features called upon that locked up the entire Logic Head. Some owners had to have an entire new unit installed...and that was why they pulled it. I'd go back right away to 12.0.5 until you see the same file, even if it is posted as Feb released...to the Yamaha Canada site. It still does not allow you to download any file, let alone the Feb 12.0.6! Somebody might have screwed up,....still be careful. I agree with Chief...if this is a modified file, they would have differentiated it with the pulled '12.0.6' and posted it as a May release, even if the same version number. That's what has me cautious.

YamahaParExcellence Posted May 13, 2018 #15 Posted May 13, 2018 (edited) Here's the link to Yamaha Canada...still with the same message..... http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/star_infotainment/ Edited May 13, 2018 by YamahaParExcellence
Yoopermoose Posted May 14, 2018 #16 Posted May 14, 2018 Here's the link to Yamaha Canada...still with the same message..... http://www.yamaha-motor.ca/star_infotainment/ I was running R12.0.06 that my dealer installed on delivery and he installed an updated R12.0.06 two weeks ago which seems to be working fine. I sure wouldn’t go back to a previous version. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Zelthian Posted May 14, 2018 Author #17 Posted May 14, 2018 I decided to call the dedicated customer service line to ask about the 12.0.6 update. Here is what I was told: The 12.0.6 update was pulled due to the fact that customers and dealers ran into issues getting it installed. It turned out that these customers were using USB drives with features like encryption and access passwords that were causing issues with the infotainment system software when it tried to access the files on them. They didn't know what was causing the problem and pulled the update out of an abundance of caution in case it was actually the update that was causing the issue. Once they traced the issue to certain USB drives and not the update itself, they re-released the update. The guy also confirmed there are no release notes for the updates beyond what you see on the website currently, which means the comment that is there ("Includes bug fixes related with iOS compatibility") is very likely just what's changed from 12.0.5 to 12.0.6. I gave them the feedback that the community would very much like to have a historic list of fixes for each of the released updates, and he took that feedback and attached it to my vin to hand back to Yamaha.

OK...so I will upload the download to the SVTC, that I made...tomorrow, and then try to download my GPS Nav onto a 16 GB stick that I bought for that. I should do the 12.0.6 before I try that though...and that makes sense.
NOHAWG Posted May 15, 2018 #19 Posted May 15, 2018 I updated my firmware this weekend, and it went smoothly in less than 20 minutes. Piece of cake!

I started at 12:50 and it took 20 minutes to update. When it rebooted the time was at 5:10.....That just seems odd to me.

When it rebooted the time was at 5:10.....That just seems odd to me. It probably messed with your clock settings...time zone, DST, etc... I did my update yesterday...left it doing its thing in the garage...and when I came out 30 minutes later...my Serius XM was playing. So...who knows what it resets.

Has anyone checked their “trip meter” to how it’s functioning? I watch the trip meter and the mileage is clicking off a mile after only about 1/10th of a mile. Im gonna go ahead and update this weekend since it sounds like R12.0.6 is the latest and greatest. Maybe that will fix this oddity.
