What is the best fuel pump out there for a 2nd Gen nowadays? I have over 30k on my bike with no issues YET. Does anybody make a pointless pump to eliminate the point problem?

Just about any low pressure fuel pump will work. I used a Mr Gasket. Here is a write up on what I did. There are some other 5-7 psi pumps I forget what the flow needs to be like 5 gph or something, it aint much. but size becomes an issue with some so I went with this one.

If I remember correctly, the OE pump won't let fuel pass if it isn't running and some of the cheap pumps that can be used will. This could be a safety issue in an accident. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I know that OEM 1st Gen pumps seem to be more durable.. I wonder if anyone has looked into swapping a 1st Gen pump into a 2nd Gen?

I replaced mine 2 years ago with a direct replacement from Dennis Kirk for $125. The I bought another one off of Ebay for $30, new from Caltric (California Electric). I put the cheapy in the saddle bag just incase. I know some here have backyard Barney'd other non motorcycle pumps into their scoots. I prefer plug and play. This way if the pump goes out again while on a trip, I simply pull out the new cheap spare.....20 minutes later I am back on the road. If you Frankenstein one in and for some reason it quits while your out, you have no way to fix it. Some things are best left alone. Your not going to save much money, if any, by going the other route. Once the covers are off, it is one screw, two hoses and an electrical plug. Just my .02 John.
