Chaharly Posted May 3, 2018 #1 Posted May 3, 2018 Hey guys! Stopped at the local dealer today while killing some time. They already had the cherry SVTC sold and had a charcoal grey one sitting right next to the new 7 speed wing. The floor guy Jeff come out and was showing me all the bells and whistles on it. I sat on it and I must say I really concur with the people who say the front suspension is too soft. Just pushing down on the bars makes it sag significantly and I felt just the little hopping up and down I did really made that front suspension move. I told Jeff that many people have been complaining about the new wings suspension, though the look on hisface showed he didn't believe me. Him and I both agree thick, that Honda isn't hunting the BMW, they're hunting the people like me. The people who want the sport and comfort. The new GW felt way lighter than the SVTC though on the Wing, I didn't see any place for highway pegs. I think the Venture is going to be the more comfortable bike, but if I had 30k in hand, I'd probably lean towards the wing, at least from whay I saw on the dealership floor.

The new Wing seems to have a following...and choice is good. What I am waiting for...will be the proof-in-the-pudding. I want to see changes (if any) on the new Wing, for the '19 year model. A lot of the 2017 and down model year owners think that there might be some very noticeable changes, or at least within the next couple of years... It will interesting to see. Also, some feel that Honda is going to (they already have all the tooling) re-release the 2017, but with updated infotainment. If they do that...then all the beefing will stop. For those that want an ST ride...they have it. For those that want a Tour Deluxe ride and feature set...they can have that back too. It will be interesting to see Honda's response to this year's not all, going Rah, Rah, Honda, for 2018. Just my take.

I've been reading your patiently not so patient waiting for your venture! Absolutely beautiful bike, they look even more delicious in person! I'm waiting on the edge of my seat to hear your review of it! VERY solid feel and amazing build quality on that there yam! If I had money I'd buy both!
slowrollwv Posted May 4, 2018 #4 Posted May 4, 2018 A friend and I went for a ride on Tuesday and stopped at the Honda, Kawa and Polaris dealer. They had two new wings. One was the 7 speed auto and the other was Manual shift. Then we walked to the other end of the shop where they had the Slingshots. I looked them over real good and then I sat in the one with a roof that looked like a T top It was the best looking one that I have seen so far. It was a Limited Edition Grand Tour. I haven't been able to see or ride the SVTC yet but right now my would go for the Sling.

slowrollwv Posted May 4, 2018 #6 Posted May 4, 2018 Have you gotten the chance to ride/drive a slingshot yet? Yes Cha I road one at the 2015 WV SCRC rally in Bluefield. And Larry has offered to let me drive his. The good thing about the Sling is you do not have to have the MC endorsement to drive it here so the wife can drive it.

Freebird Posted May 4, 2018 #8 Posted May 4, 2018 Those T-Tops look pretty nice but I decided against it for two reasons. 1. PRICE. It will set you back around $2500.00. The fabric top I bought was still high at $1300.00 but at least a little better. 2. FUNCTION. I actually like the fabric top because you can easily remove the canvas and have a completely open cockpit. It folds up and can be stored in the compartment behind either of the seats. The fact is though, the accessories for the Slingshot are just crazy expensive. The aftermarket guys are making a killing off this stuff. I know that all bike parts are expensive but it seems to me that the Slingshot bling is exponentially higher than motorcycle goodies. One thing that I quickly realized was needed was a rear fender. I was blown away at the prices. Carbon_one made his own rear fender and if I were more patient, he would have made one for me but he has been really busy and I didn't want to push him. So, I broke down and ordered one a couple of weeks ago. It turned out really nice and came color matched and SHOULD have been very easy to install. It WOULD have been very easy to install if ANY of the holes in the mounting brackets had lined up properly. As it was, I spent a lot of time modifying, drilling, grinding, etc. to make it work. What should have been a 20 to 30 minute job ended up taking me about 2 1/2 hours. I think it looked great when I finally got done but wanted to choke somebody when I was installing it. For the money they charge, I shouldn't have had those issues. I will also say that a rear fender should be standard on these things. You can see how dirty the rear of mine is from just a short ride last weekend. You end up with mud and water all over the rear end if you don't have a fender. Here are a couple of pictures just after I got it installed yesterday afternoon.

I bet they'd be a blast in the mountains Like an adult kid + with an adult sized go cart + with a big motor = YEEEEEEEEEHAWWWWWWWW!!!!!! We drove the below at Sturgis last year as well as the Sling,, considerably more money (27k) but definitely a high end build and it's boosted.. I would LOVE to own either BUT,, as my gut constantly reminds me every time I stop and look at one of those 350hp/4 speed early Vettes I have always wanted = "you do know that if its nice enough out to be rippin around in a convertible Vette - it will be nice enough for you to be on the seat of a bike and you KNOW which one you will choose"...
Freebird Posted May 4, 2018 #10 Posted May 4, 2018 There are a lot of people turbo charging and super charging the Slingshots. It all depends upon how deep your pockets are. Several kits available. Around $5,000.00. I won't do it. It is quick enough for me as is. I'll change the exhaust at some point but that's about it. Any other changes and/or additions will be comfort related. These kits take you from the stock 175HP to the 300HP range. https://www.slingmods.com/turbos-superchargers

Not long ago I did a quick study between the Polaris prices on parts for their Indian repops in comparison to those of similar parts for a HD and was completely blown away.. Many times I found Polaris hitting up the consumer at a rate of x20 and even x100 for some stuff.. That little research started out with reading about a guy who was complaining about having to pay Polaris $127 for a small plastic access cover (about the size and make of a battery cover on a typical TV remote control) that HD wanted $2.50 for = UNBELIEVBLE!!! I cant help but wonder if companies like Polaris havent watched with amazement and maybe even some as HD riders have tended to :mo money:over stick on bling and thought to themselves,,,,,, hey,, if it's high prices they want,, its high prices they will get = we'll gladly take their money and they went for it - BIG Time!!

I did take a ride in a freinds twin turboed, 500 hp AWD Audi the other day and it was a hoot but seriously,, way to violent for a single wheel drive go cart though..

slowrollwv Posted May 4, 2018 #14 Posted May 4, 2018 Don the one we were checking on had the roof and rear fender on it. The only thing I would add would be a hitch. They gave me a price of $26,950 out the door.
Freebird Posted May 4, 2018 #15 Posted May 4, 2018 Freebird...is the cockpit totally waterproof?!? Supposed to be. You can hose it out and etc. Don the one we were checking on had the roof and rear fender on it. The only thing I would add would be a hitch. They gave me a price of $26,950 out the door. I bought the hitch from Carbon_one. Easy install and should work well. That sounds like a decent price out the door with those accessories already added. The aftermarket gull wing top is 2500.00 and the fender, depending upon which one you get, can run close to $1000.00. With my fender color matched, I paid $965.00 for it. Nuts in my opinion.
slowrollwv Posted May 4, 2018 #16 Posted May 4, 2018 Yes that was a decent price for the new 18. My friend and his wife were looking at one in another color without the roof and they told him that he could get the roof added for $2,700. that was no rear fender and it was $700.00 more than the Grand Tour I looked at. But like anything else I would shop for a nice used one at a better price.

It is also Ram air and it really provides a boost of power especially coming out of a turn on roads like the Dragon!

That is the first time I've ever even heard of a Vanderhaal. What a gorgeous machine! That thing screams past and future all at once! I don't know why but I get an intense sense of Café racer looking at that thing! How was the test drive?? Did ya get to really let her rip? And that blue thing on top, was that like a filter for a supercharger?

At the top quality prices these people feel they can charge for these slingshot accessories they really should feel ashamed of themselves. My dad had a slingshot for awhile, but the price and quality of the aftermarket and factory equipment didn't impress him to keep it. He figured he'd be better buy a convertible so him and ma decided to get a Convertible PT Cruiser with the turbo. Fun little car!
