SpencerPJ Posted April 30, 2018 #1 Posted April 30, 2018 Any guess what happened to by 83 when this broke? Lucky it did minimal damage, broke left rear turn signal that I will be able to repair with a screw, glad it didn't do any fairing damage or handle bar damage.. Ordered replacement off ebay, should be here by Thurs, $22 free ship. Good thing I have a center stand. The threaded part of the bolt is all gone, I'm guessing this has been broken for some time, just now showed it's uglyness. Note to other 1st Gen owners, check your kickstand bolt. There are threads, mods and everything in this website concerning the issue.
Flyinfool Posted April 30, 2018 #2 Posted April 30, 2018 I bet it took a nap......... As you mentioned it is pretty common. I rebuilt mine a long time ago before nap time.

saddlebum Posted May 2, 2018 #5 Posted May 2, 2018 OHHH you so should have checked with Marcarl before ordering. Good chance he has some barely used ones cause he used to just lay the bike down instead of using the side stand.

bongobobny Posted May 3, 2018 #8 Posted May 3, 2018 I remember when that happened to Mother right in my driveway!!
Condor Posted May 3, 2018 #9 Posted May 3, 2018 What happens is the bolt that holds the side stand on is shouldered, and isn't meant to be tightened.. The nut that fits on the back is nothing more that a lock nut.. The side stand gets a little loose from wear and folks think that by torquing down on the nut it will tighten up the stand. IT usually ends up breaking the bolt end off... Then they replace the oem bolt with one that's completely threaded. It puts too much pressure on the yoke and it breaks... My 2¢
