new.jpgBackrest 1.jpg I did not really care for the seat and what they called a backrest so I had a custom seat makeover. I then added a backrest to it. This has made the long hauls very comfortable to me. I am in SoCal where I can ride all the time. If you like I can post where I got the seat done and show what I had to make for the backrest to work on that seat>

I like the higher backrest. I got the taller Yamaha one. It’s better than stock but still needs to be taller. I had my re-upholstered and had them add padding and deepen the tufting for a better scoop.

That looks pretty good. The taller butt stop was not tall enough is why I went for the backrest.

I forgot to ask, the Yamaha stock & high rise backrests are heated. Were you able to maintain that functionality in your new configuration, or did you just abandon having that?

I did keep all the heating in place. The lower backsupport or butt stop is heated but the backrest itself is not.The back rest is high enough on my back that my jacket would cover it. I am in SoCal so not that much of a problem being really cold.

Would be interested to know how you did it.

First I got the Chrome Smart Mount Backrest Kit. Then I went to the hardware store and got a T brace that ties beans together and cut to fit under the seat. I removered the brace under the seatthat allows the butt stop to lock in place. Followed the instruction that came with the Smart mout backrest and there you have it. I will take some pictures and post them for you.

I’d have to find a way to restore keep the heat function. Gets cold in some areas I ride including NC.
