Yammer Dan Posted April 28, 2018 #1 Posted April 28, 2018 OK out of gas. It ran for a little while making sure this was what was going on. Clicking like mad!! Turned off, put gas in it, turned back on. NO CLICK!! No Start!! I couldn't have burnt that pump up that easy???
mm482 Posted April 28, 2018 #2 Posted April 28, 2018 Tap on the fuel pump and see if it starts pumping. Thepoints are probably stuck. If they stickone time more than likely they will stick again.

Fuel pump is a 3 inch round cylinder with a black rubber cap. Tape off the cap and see the points. Mine were burned uneven at 15,000 miles. Totally stuck together but possible to unstick just by tapping on them with the key on. If so, buy points not a very expensive fuel pump. Venturefar... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Bert2006 Posted April 28, 2018 #4 Posted April 28, 2018 Common issue on 2nd gens. I bought a new pump, replaced the points in the old one and keep it in the trunk as a back up when on road trips.

Yammer Dan Posted April 29, 2018 Author #7 Posted April 29, 2018 Well That didn't work. Might get time tomorrow to pull it and look over. Have one on way for 15 bucks.
Yammer Dan Posted April 30, 2018 Author #8 Posted April 30, 2018 Is there a fuse for this thing??? Still learning to speak 2nd Gen.....
Bert2006 Posted April 30, 2018 #9 Posted April 30, 2018 Well That didn't work. Might get time tomorrow to pull it and look over. Have one on way for 15 bucks. Be really careful with the cheap pumps. There are reports of folk experiencing hydro lock ln engine as a result of fuel being allowed to get from tank to cylinders when bike is off. The OEM pump has backvalve to avoid this.

vzuden Posted May 1, 2018 #11 Posted May 1, 2018 Or remember to turn fuel off at petcock every time you turn off engine.
videoarizona Posted May 1, 2018 #12 Posted May 1, 2018 Or remember to turn fuel off at petcock every time you turn off engine. :sign yeah that: I make that a habit and do so every time I shut down.
videoarizona Posted May 1, 2018 #13 Posted May 1, 2018 By the way, the link that I found to order just the pump took me to a Canadian site that won't let me order from the states. I did find another older link but that page doesn't exist. If anyone has a link to a good set of points for the 2nd gen, I'd appreciate it. I do have 2 cheapie fuel pumps...#1 , the points are already bent so they won't last...but the other looks really good. So I'll keep #2 but want to carry points around just in case. TIA
Yammer Dan Posted May 1, 2018 Author #14 Posted May 1, 2018 I put petcock on reserve and leave it!! This another shortcoming on 2nd Gens??
Flyinfool Posted May 1, 2018 #15 Posted May 1, 2018 On a 2nd gen if a float valve leaks, the tank being above the carbs will fill the engine with gas. On the other hand, if a fuel pump fails while on the road, you can gravity feed the engine to get home.
