ChiefGunner Posted April 20, 2018 #1 Posted April 20, 2018 Just a heads up to the SVTC riders. I got my baby Dec 29th. I’ve got 4868 miles on it so far, but at around 3k miles I noticed what looked like WEAR SPOTS appearing along both sides of the tank. I don’t wear leathers, only jeans like everybody else. It was getting progressively worse and didn’t make sense. The dealership took pictures and conferred with Yamaha about it. She’s always garaged and I’m SUPER CAREFUL about her. Earlier this week I was gonna go see if I could get somebody to buff it out, but they couldn’t. They stated it felt as if the clearcoat was “raised”. That set off alarm bells, so I went to a Pro paint shop & had them check it out. Their determination based upon age of the bike, miles and clothing while riding is that it’s a PAINT DEFECT. I supplied the dealership with their written diagnosis which they forwarded on to Yamaha. Bottom line is that I’m getting a new gas tank next week. I only bring this up so that you SVTC riders can keep an eye on yours as well. Ride safe & ride proud my brothers!

Wow...perhaps I'm glad now that mine was the last to be produced on the line...hopefully they got feedback on this before mine scooted on down for the end run. Thanks...will keep a peep out for this...as well as slapping about 5 pound's of Mother's Carnauba! To all other SVTC owners...if you also see this...be sure to add to this thread...for that will confirm it isn't merely an unfortunate one-time happening for one owner. Perhaps this thread should be pinned for at least a year!

Chief, can you supply a picture of what it looks like, a shot from both the right and left affected areas. That would show us what to look out for! Thanks,
