djh3 Posted April 5, 2018 #1 Posted April 5, 2018 Well it is time again for my yearly insurance rip off, ur um I mean renewal time. I have been with Dairyland for a couple years now, ever since Geico jumped my rates like $150 from the previous year. So dairyland sends me the bill for my insurance. Same coverage as last year, I carry way more than the minimums Which I guess is 10k/20k. I carry 100/300 property liability off 100 vs 10k. So Dairyland want over $730 a jump of $146 from last year. So I was watching some motorcycle videos the other nite and an ad shows up something about bike insurance from a MRA (motorcycle riders insurance) they are in Lakeland here in Fla but deal nationwide as far as I can tell. Their quote for actually some areas higher coverage is less than $50 a year. So do you all think this is to go to be true? It sure is making me think about switching. Has anyone delt with them before? I cant find anything on BBB site.
gmarshall Posted April 6, 2018 #2 Posted April 6, 2018 There was a company called Riders insurance that was available in July and ohio that I used when I lived there. They were a reliable outfit. I don’t know if this is the same outfit.
videoarizona Posted April 6, 2018 #3 Posted April 6, 2018 I have Progressive. Have 100/300k with zero deductible. Collision/uninsured/underinsured. Full coverage. 89 VR and 05 RSV Through USAA...$495/YR. IF PAID in full. I think that's the best deal I found for Arizona. But I no longer live in Phoenx... So my rates went down.
BlueSky Posted April 6, 2018 #4 Posted April 6, 2018 I suppose it's like car insurance. They give you a low rate to get your business and then increase the premium at every renewal. Lately I've been switching car insurance every year because of that. I only have liability on my bike, so it doesn't change. I think the state sets the liability rates.
Du-Rron Posted April 6, 2018 #5 Posted April 6, 2018 Well it is time again for my yearly insurance rip off,... Try Markel Insurance http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?122573-Markel-Insurance-Quote-08-01-16-Bike-Insurance
djh3 Posted April 6, 2018 Author #6 Posted April 6, 2018 Dont want to poke around to much. They pull a credit check everytime you get a quote and then it pulls your rating down.
slowrollwv Posted April 6, 2018 #7 Posted April 6, 2018 I have Progressive on my two bikes. Just got my renewal for this year and it jumped up to almost double of last year. I will go to Allstate. I thought this would happen as Progressive did the same thing to my car insurance last year after I renewed it for the bikes. I went with Allstate for the cars with more coverage and saved enough to pay my home owners insurance.
SpencerPJ Posted April 6, 2018 #8 Posted April 6, 2018 Wow, and I thought mine was high. State Farm, I have 250/500k with $500 deductible. Collision/uninsured/underinsured. Full coverage. $291 I have higher bodily injury because of an umbrella police I have, that covers me at a higher amount. Got a scare once with one of my kids, found out when you hit another person or cause an accident, medical bills and car repairs add up really fast. If you only have 100/300, after the single person hits 100k, well, they can come after your life savings. Thankfully the other person ended up ok, and my kid was 18, so I wasn't liable, but my wife and I thought, if that was us causing the accident, the lawyers would come hard after your life savings.
Condor Posted April 6, 2018 #9 Posted April 6, 2018 I'm still with Geico for over 10 years now. When I first tried to get ins. on the '83 I got a 6mo. quote from State Farm that was ridiculous. I then shopped around on the net and found a Progressive loaded for $175.. Cool!! Then just for the heck of it I looked at Geico. Same coverage. $125. Really Cool!! Then the second year's renewal went down to $96. So that's the way I went, and happy I did due to Progressive's political stance. Since then I have had up to 3 RSV's insured for about $750/yr., and now am down to the '04RSV/Voyager for $250/yr. So I don't have any complaints.... My big complaint is Kalifornia. My registration renewal just jumped $100 bucks on the '04.
snyper316 Posted April 7, 2018 #10 Posted April 7, 2018 I have geico I'm above state minimums I would have to look at mine but I got $50 comp and $250 collision with $2,000 for medical for $31 a month. I can go up to $10,000 in medical for $45 a month my motorcycle insurance has never went up or down. My car insurance went up thru geico so I went to AAA for liability only its now $71 a month. Now hopefully they won't find reason to raise me come August due to lady trying to drive thru me. After this accident and the lady never hitting the brakes and walking away with basically neal injuries after being rear ended at 45-50mph I will be finding me another Tahoe or chevy pickup!! She did hit me with a Dodge Dakota 90 s model which also has a frame too. I do think if she hit the brakes it could have been worse outcome for her baby. So in ways I'm glad she was dumb. Still can't get over the fact I asked how her baby was ok and she goes her brakes didn't work... Never ride faster then your angel can fly. I am as free as the wind on my face.
bongobobny Posted April 10, 2018 #11 Posted April 10, 2018 I use State Farm for all of my insurance needs primarily due to to how well they handle claims, not how cheap they are! They are prompt and fair and I am very satisfied with their claims handling!

They are prompt and fair and I am very satisfied with their claims handling! I also use State Farm. Im very pleased and I pay $22 /yr for my KTM (plated dirt bike) and I think the bigger bikes are $45-ish. I newly switched from Progressive. I was happy with Progressive for years, had full coverage on my Audi and smacked a deer, I then found out why they are so cheap. After using their claims department and drudging through some of the worst customer service since Verizon or AT&T. Progressives claims dept is an experience I will never repeat without a lawyer. It was like truing to have a serious conversation with a group of children, I have no clue where they get employees but NEVER AGAIN! I cut my losses and moved everything to State Farm. What surprised me is that overall State Farm is cheaper (cabin, bikes, cars) once all is considered. Besides they have a local office I can walk into. I will never cheap out on insurance again, icing on the cake that I now have quality insurance at lower cost.

They are prompt and fair and I am very satisfied with their claims handling! Me Too, Bob... They've had all my business for over 40 years for much the same reasons, but when I tried to get the '83 covered I got a quote of $819 bucks per year. And that was for minimum 15/30 coverage. Scared the cr@p out of me... Geico gave me 100/300 with everything for $125 for the entire year. Guess who I went with?? Been with Geico ever since. They even paid a claim on the stolen trailer, and didn't see an increase.
rickardracing Posted April 11, 2018 #14 Posted April 11, 2018 I have AAA. Not sure of the coverage numbers but I know that I have a lot of coverage. Way more than the basic. Both bikes, full coverage is right about $550 for both.

Kretz Posted April 12, 2018 #20 Posted April 12, 2018 I'm seriously thinking about giving up riding much to do with the cost of insurance. We get royally screwed here & there is absolutely no way around having to use a totally inefficient, incompetent, extortionate Gov't monopoly. No competition at all! Insurance rates are being increased FOUR times this year due to the insurers $1.3 billion loss this year. My insurance this year will be around $1200 & that is after a maximum allowed 43% "Good Driver Discount" BS!!!!! Beats me how thousands of insurance companies around the world can operate at a profit & provide good rates, but the Guvmint gets involved and....

djh3 Posted April 12, 2018 Author #23 Posted April 12, 2018 Got my quote back from the MRA place. It is Progressive and is something like 20-30 month less than Dairyland. So got that all firmed up and got to thinking, wonder if she can do me any good on my cars. So got a quote back again from Progressive and its going to save me over 160 every 6 months. So over all a switch is going to save me close to 500 a year.
cowpuc Posted April 12, 2018 #24 Posted April 12, 2018 Insurance wise, we bikers in Michigan got sold down the stream a number of years ago when the "No-Fault" insurance scam came into effect.. Part of that scam included this thing called the "Catastrophic Fund" that all vehicle owners are required to pay into.. The basis is that whenever someone is injured in vehicle accident and their medical costs go over a certain amount, instead of funding that amount - insurance companies turn it over to the fund managers of the Catastrophic Fund for handling and they (the company's) are no longer responsible = definitely rubbing shoulders with socialism. Digging a little deeper into the whole scam revealed (and it still is this way), a person insuring a bike also has to pay into the "fund" at the same rate as car owners, to the tune of 170 a year.. If you own a car and a bike = 340 a year just for the fund.. The horror story of all this comes up when an unsuspecting bike rider has a run in with another biker, a deer, a bicyclist or any other means of accident other than an actual 4 wheeled insured vehicle.. If no 4 wheeled vehicle is involved in a bike accident that results in personal injury = even though we are forced to pay the fund fee - we do not have access to the fund....
