star4772 Posted April 26, 2008 #1 Posted April 26, 2008 I would like to make some of the Canadian M&E and some of the runs. I would like to know exactly what does a U.S. citizen need to cross the border? Joe
Guest maddabber Posted April 26, 2008 #2 Posted April 26, 2008 Right now you would need your birth certificate and photo ID such as your drivers licence. Please note that radar detectors and hand guns are prohibited in Canada. You are more than welcome to come on over.
Mariner Fan Posted April 26, 2008 #3 Posted April 26, 2008 They get all upset if you have drugs or guns. Used to be you could cross at will. Didn't need anything other than a drivers license. I've heard that you will need a Passport to cross the border but I think that hasn't been put in place yet.
BradT Posted April 26, 2008 #4 Posted April 26, 2008 I've heard that you will need a Passport to cross the border but I think that hasn't been put in place yet. Yes they have been thinking of it but not in pace yet. It is has been post poned a couple of times already and I think it is pushed out to later 2008 or out to 2009. So come across, Next one is tomorrow near Detroit. In Essex county. Brad
friesman Posted April 26, 2008 #5 Posted April 26, 2008 Radar detectors are legal in Saskatchewan, for sure and I think Alberta, and B.C.allows their use also. I use mine all the time and have had a couple of the last 25 years. But he's right on about the guns and drugs thing. It's fine to have 2 pieces of ID with one being a photo ID, but if you have a passport bring it as it does seem to make things more standardized. We are all glad youre coming up, its always good to have more friends around up here. Brian
Marcarl Posted April 26, 2008 #6 Posted April 26, 2008 If you want to ride on this side of the border you are going to need the most important thing, one that nobody yet has mentioned and you cannot do without. Some have tried to get here without it but most find it a whole lot more pleasurable to to take their scoot.
sarges46 Posted April 26, 2008 #7 Posted April 26, 2008 The problem is not so much getting into Canada....its getting back home! The crossing laws are being driven by US regulations.
bongobobny Posted April 26, 2008 #8 Posted April 26, 2008 Money helps! Also, you must be proficient in the Canadian Language. Learn the proper usage of the word "Eh"...
Midicat Posted April 26, 2008 #9 Posted April 26, 2008 Living in Niagara and 15 minutes from the border, I can tell you that I have to agree with sarges46. We cross over into NYS often and we have the hardest time getting back into our own country. So, you may experience more difficulty getting back home rather than getting over here. We always welcome our U.S. visitors. "Citizenship?" "Where you going?" "Have a good day!" Your own government will be asking all the questions when you return. "Citizenship?" "Where you been?" "How long away?" "Buy anything?" "Value?" "Pull over to the left, please"
Freebird Posted April 26, 2008 #10 Posted April 26, 2008 I've had my passport for years. I renewed it about 6 years ago so it's still good for another 4 years. My wife doesn't have hers yet. My question is: If we get into Canada but on the way back, she isn't allowed to re-enter the USA and I have to leave her there, do any of you know any eligible nice looking ladies in the USA that might be interested in a worn out old man?

Hey Don, if Eileen knows how to cook you can leave her here...LOL I'm close to the border so you could come and visit any time.
Freebird Posted April 26, 2008 #12 Posted April 26, 2008 Heck...she's a GREAT cook. I hadn't even thought about that. Maybe I'll try to get her back home.
