Mad Dog Posted February 13, 2018 #1 Posted February 13, 2018 Goooooooooooood morning, I'm putting som LED accent lighting in, around and under my 06 RSV. There are a few plugs that snap the LED strands together that should probably be waterproofed since they actually sent shrink tubing to do this. Problem is that the shrink tubing doesn't quite fit. Just a bit too small. Anyway I'm looking for opinions and suggestions... I was wondering if just a coating of silicone? or that F4 Tape? Both? Find the right shrink tubing??? TIA Mike
M61A1MECH Posted February 13, 2018 #2 Posted February 13, 2018 Depending on how much to small the heat shrink is, you may be able to stretch it enough to fit then shrink it back in place. Sometimes heatshrink start to recove it’s size (shrink) on its own due to age . If you do decide to get new heat shrink in a more appropriate size, get the adhesive lined type, it is much better at water proofing.
djh3 Posted February 15, 2018 #3 Posted February 15, 2018 I use needle nose pliers, insert in tube and open them. You can gain a bit on the size then shrink it down. Also a smidge of dielectric grease on connector, then shrink it. It will help seal it.
cimmer Posted February 20, 2018 #4 Posted February 20, 2018 If you need some larger heat shrink tubing, check out Menard's or Home Depot as they sometimes have it in their electrical areas. You can also get some from Harbor Freight as they carry different sizes also. Rick F.
