B.E. Coyote Posted January 10, 2018 #1 Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) Never mind, I'm going to wait for them. Edited January 10, 2018 by B.E. Coyote
luvmy40 Posted January 10, 2018 #2 Posted January 10, 2018 PLEASE get OEM gaskets. The chicom stuff on fleaBay are complete junk. Ask me how I know!
Flyinfool Posted January 10, 2018 #3 Posted January 10, 2018 If the gaskets are more than a couple of years old I would replace them. For as much of a PITA as it is to get to them you really do not want to go back and redo for a leak.
B.E. Coyote Posted January 10, 2018 Author #4 Posted January 10, 2018 yep, oem I don't know the age of the gaskets for sure but suspect they are as old as the bike, 1999. Been putting a lot of the time into this bike and your right. I would be pretty unhappy to have to tear it down again, especially since they are paid for and on the way. Shop expects them here by the end of the week.
bongobobny Posted January 10, 2018 #5 Posted January 10, 2018 Reuse them?? Two words, HELL NO!!! Once a gasket has been compressed for any length of time, it takes what is known as a SET. That means it is permanently distorted! This goes for "O" rings as well! When I was working in the aircraft flight control industry, it was a given to always replace the o rings every time a piece of used hardware was disassembled. I have seen many an o ring transformed into a flat ring...
