bongobobny Posted January 7, 2018 #2 Posted January 7, 2018 Hmm, that's a tough one, Ed! I have a Progressive shock for my '84 but Goldie is still under reconstruction. I'm going to just arbitrarily set it around 1/2 way up which may be way too stiff. The problem being it is just like predicting which dampening and air pressure to run the stock setup. It all depends on the load on the bike as well as the rider's personal preference to how he/she wants the bike to respond... I'm thinking it will be a lot of tweaking before I find the right setting for MY preference! Maybe someone else who has the Progressive shock on their 1st Gen will sound off.
cowpuc Posted January 7, 2018 #3 Posted January 7, 2018 I have a Progressive shock on the back of Tweeks.. If I were installing a new one I would adjust the spring preload all the way to max load while off the bike and then back it off as needed once I got it back on the bike.. I found out that its easier to turn that preload ring in a lefty loosey direction then rightsy tightsy when on the bike.. Probably makes very little sense but that is what I would do. All the way tight, install on scoot, load up with riders and gear you will use when touring, set static sag on spring by backing off preload in small increments, get set where you want it while backing off ring, lock it down..
rbig1 Posted January 7, 2018 #4 Posted January 7, 2018 when I bought mine new they wanted to know weight of rider if two up and do you tow a trailer. I tightened it up a good 1/4 of a turn before installing. Was a little rough till it settled in. Make shure to install where the adjuster for rebound is easiest to get to. FORGOT to mention was on second gen
