rbig1 Posted December 31, 2017 #1 Posted December 31, 2017 Ok if your not into getting stranded and having to fix on road. There was a old article on buying a motorcycle for under 1.000 bucks riding a 1000 miles. You can replace tires, battery, and brake pads. every thing else except gaskets has to stay true from bike. You can add sundry parts to your hearts content. We would have to figure where to stop and start stay at a motel after 500 miles. at that time figure all the break downs you went through one with the most wins a gag prize. one with the least gets a ribbing {cheater} maybe a t that says that. lol The bike just has to be from the 90s or older. I will have to sell my van so I can join in. So need time to do that. WHO WANTS TO BE STRANDED?????? What ya thunk is this stupid. I cant help it cabin fever.

luvmy40 Posted December 31, 2017 #3 Posted December 31, 2017 I've got an '82 Yamaha XJ750 Maxim that I bought for $800.00 changed the tires and battery and have put close to 10K miles on with only one breakdown. The main fuse popped out of the fuse block. It took me a minute or two to find it and 10 seconds to fix it. She does need brake pads and shoes now though. I'd ride her 1000 miles tomorrow if it wasn't cold and icy!
slowrollwv Posted December 31, 2017 #4 Posted December 31, 2017 I have an 85 V 65 Honda Sabre in the shed. got it for doing some body work on an old pick up. Need to fix a pin hole leak in the fuel tank and it is ready to go.
snyper316 Posted January 1, 2018 #5 Posted January 1, 2018 this sounds fun..... can we do this in Late February early March. OK I think maybe we should wait till may
Flyinfool Posted January 2, 2018 #6 Posted January 2, 2018 I think this was already done with a $250 Venture that went from eastern Canada to Cancun Mexico in Feb - March. He ended up giving the bike to someone down there and flying home. Found it http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?119387-Canada-to-Cancun-on-the-250-Venture-The-full-ride-report
rbig1 Posted January 3, 2018 Author #7 Posted January 3, 2018 well that took the starch out of sail. After reading your post update I remember that post
Flyinfool Posted January 3, 2018 #8 Posted January 3, 2018 Also takes some of the starch out of the cold weather ride thread since this one started at -25 and snowing out.
