Chaharly Posted November 29, 2017 #1 Posted November 29, 2017 Thinking about getting one of these. Anyone know anything about them?? https://ventureaudiolink.wordpress.com/
djh3 Posted November 30, 2017 #2 Posted November 30, 2017 Good luck finding one. If I remember right, a fellow overseas built them years ago. He has not sold them in years. If you have a line on one great. I think they need a live power source. I think the couple guys that had them on 2nd gen had wired them to a key on power source so it did not kill battery.
videoarizona Posted November 30, 2017 #3 Posted November 30, 2017 I bought one for my 89 VR about 3 years ago. It works great. The only issue I had at first, was after I connected both ends of the cable, I had to find a position around the tape deck where the unit would sit and allow me to push the audio system back into place. The unit would get in the way as I pushed down. Solved by taping the unit to the tape deck on the left side... Also, remember that as long as you supply a signal on the wire....you will not have a tape deck or radio. This unit senses a signal from an external source and shuts off the radio allowing the external source play through just like a deck. Turning off your external audio source will allow the radio to work. BTW, the unit gets it power from the Yamaha system so no external power needed. Now for the bad news. You can try and contact them...but I think they were selling the last batch about a year ago. If you get the "no" response, you can search the older posts here as someone on this forum found a schematic of the audio pin out between the tape deck and the radio...and was able to figure out how to switch an external audio source into the system. Another approach: Edsets make a universal adapter that plugs in to the end of the headset cable and operates as a passthrough device if you wish to continue to use your helmet speakers or mic. It also has a 3.5 mm headset jack so you can plug in your favorite ear buds OR...use it as an aux input! It costs $65 but bought one to see how well it works...and it works great. You would want the 5pin to 5pin adapter. https://www.edsets.com/universal_adapter.php Last thought....the cheapest way to go is buy one of those cassette audio adapters. Get one with the external audio input on the top...then you can push the adapter cassette into the deck, plug your mp3 player or phone into the wire and listen. Good luck...

I was using one of those cassette adapters but somehow the thing ate the wire and I'm afraid I'll ruin it if I try to get it out. I figured now would be the time to add blutooth if there ever was one. I'll check out the edsets. Thanks!

So I could actually run the edset thing in line by the amp like the first adapter I posted and just run a Bluetooth receiver into it. I rarely use the intercoms in my helmets
videoarizona Posted November 30, 2017 #6 Posted November 30, 2017 So I could actually run the edset thing in line by the amp like the first adapter I posted and just run a Bluetooth receiver into it. I rarely use the intercoms in my helmets I never tried that....it should work. I have used the mp3 player plugged in that way and that worked fine. Regarding the tape deck eating the wire....yea... had that happen too, that's why I mentioned finding one with the cable on top or near the top. I got mine out. It was easy to take apart the deck. Very rugged unit, well built!
bongobobny Posted November 30, 2017 #7 Posted November 30, 2017 Not sure what you mean by "ate the wire" on your cassette adapter, if you mean the audio wire leads broke off, well just eject the adapter and slap in a new one, they can be found for as cheap as $5. A while ago I bought a cassette adapter that is Bluetooth and it was less than $20 from what I remember. I just haven't tried that one out yet even though I've had it a year or so...

A while ago I bought a cassette adapter that is Bluetooth and it was less than $20 from what I remember. I just haven't tried that one out yet even though I've had it a year or so... Basically what happened was I was in a hurry and had the wire hanging out of the cassette lid and instead of ejecting the tape and putting it in the fairing pocket I just threw the cord in the lid and took off quick. It was kind of an emergency situation (had food in the smoker that needed to be taken out and wrapped) and I rode the bike a few times after that. I turned the radio on the other day and it wouldn't come on and I looked in the cassette deck and lo and behold it ate the wire and I cant for the life of me get the cassette out. I was thinking about grabbing it with needlenose pliers and ripping it out. Then I decided now would be the perfect time to get Bluetooth on the bike and turn the cassette deck into a phone holder.
Pegasus1300 Posted November 30, 2017 #9 Posted November 30, 2017 If you send your unit to Sierra Electronics they can put an external port on your unit with a switch that allows you to go back and forth between input and original unit. I had it done to my 1500 SE Goldwing trike radio and it worked just fine. I think it cost about $100.00 plus shipping. [h=3]www.sierra-mc.com[/h]

camos Posted December 1, 2017 #11 Posted December 1, 2017 Thinking about getting one of these. Anyone know anything about them?? https://ventureaudiolink.wordpress.com/If you want only Bluetooth connectivity to a headset for music then you can get an adapter to go from the 5 pin connector to small stereo plug and a Bluetooth transmitter similar to the one shown in your link for about $20 total. This setup won't allow talking on the CB though. Most of the transmitters are rechargeable battery operated. I have been using one for about 4 years without issue other than keeping it charged. Recently I found one for about $12 Cdn that is powered by USB so it can be turned on or off with the ignition. Haven't installed it yet but do expect it to be much more convenient.
